PROFIBUS, PROFINET and IO-Link seminar great success!
PROFIBUS PROFINET and IO-Link seminar 2015
"It was a great seminar, very interesting and it gave me kind of new knowledge basis".
That was the comment from Manuel Polonia who had travelled all the way from Italy just to attend this event. For Manuel and some 40 other engineers who attended PI UK's seminar at the Advanced Machinery Research Centre at the University of  Sheffield, Wednesday October 14th was a truly memorable day. The first event of its type in the UK, this free-to-attend seminar will be followed with more events of this type during 2016.

CERTIFIED PROFIBUS AND PROFINET TRAINING COURSES
Certified Products & People Logo
PI UK supports certified training run by our two PITCs, Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Verwer Training & Consultancy Ltd (VTC). Both organisations are authorised by PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) to deliver PI's certified courses leading to internationally-recognised accreditation as Certified PROFIBUS or PROFINET Engineers or Installers.

Certified PROFIBUS Installer
An essential course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include fieldbus installation. This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete PROFIBUS networks including DP, PA and optical fibre technology. Covering bus layout and termination, grounding rules and practices, the course will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.

Next courses:
Dec 14, Location: Manchester, Provider: MMU
Feb 8 2016, Location: Manchester, Provider: VTC
PROFIBUS Commissioning & Maintenance Course
A one-day course designed as an add-on to the Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course, covering the practical techniques of faultfinding on "operational" PROFIBUS networks. Techniques taught on the course include the use of a modern PROFIBUS analyser, Class 1 and Class 2 master functions (engineering tool) to diagnose network faults, device faults and I/O problems. Students also learn how to diagnose and accurately locate cable, connection and device faults.

Next courses:
Dec 15, Location: Manchester, Provider: MMU
Feb 9 2016, Location: Manchester, Provider: VTC
Certified PROFIBUS System Designer
This course is aimed at anyone who is dealing with the design, specification or procurement of modern automation and control systems at the engineering or technical level.  The course is also suitable for device manufacturers, system integrators and technical sales/marketing people who want to know the best way to put systems together. The course is aimed at the professional engineer level and a basic familiarity with control system terminology and the ability to perform simple engineering calculations is assumed.

Next courses:

Certified PROFIBUS Engineer Course
This is an in-depth course covering PROFIBUS DP and PA network operation, design, commissioning and live fault-finding. The course covers basic cyclic data exchange (so-called DP-V0) and DP-V1 extensions that are used in PA devices and more complex DP devices. Most of the course is involved with understanding and interpreting the various telegrams that pass between devices. It is a world-wide recognised training program, standardised by PROFIBUS International.  The Certified PROFIBUS Installer and the Commissioning & Maintenance courses are essential pre-requisites to attending this course.

Certified PROFINET Installer
An essential course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include industrial ethernet installation. This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete PROFINET networks and will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems.

Next course:
Dec 7, Location: Manchester, Provider: MMU
Certified PROFINET Engineer
This training course provides a detailed technical knowledge of the PROFINET technology and the advantages it offers your automation and production processes. At the end of the training there will be a theory exam. Participants who pass get the title Certified PROFINET Engineer and are awarded an official certificate. Successful participants will have the confidence to evaluate PROFINET as a solution for their automation requirements and be able to design a proper application.

ON-SITE CERTIFIED TRAINING FOR 6 OR MORE PEOPLE
If you've got a group of 6 or more to train, then you might be interested in having a course delivered at your own premises. The UK is well served with fully-accredited training facilities, with two organisations able to deliver these courses on-site, The Ascent Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Verwer Training and Consultancy (VTC).

Tech Tip: PROFINET Options for Devices
PROFINET logo
Our colleagues in the USA often use an age old catch phrase during their one day PROFINET classes, "But wait, there's more!" when they get to the latter part of the day. At that time they've usually covered the standard PROFINET application functionality and continue talking about additional PROFINET features and options. They found that most engineers and developers don't realize what the optional features of PROFINET are and their purpose. Here is a list of those optional features and what they do.
