PROFINET Webinars

Our associates in America report fantastic interest in PROFINET, with news of major applications at Boeing, GE and Volkswagen's new plant in Mexico where some 2,500 cars a day are rolling off the production line thanks to PROFINET.

PROFINET is now so important in the American market that they've put together a series of highly instructive PROFINET training webinars which you can access by clicking here.
Certified PROFIBUS and PROFINET training - on-site courses

If you've got a group of 6 or more to train, then you might be interested in having the course delivered at your own premises.

The UK is well served with fully-accredited training facilities, with two organisations able to deliver these courses on-site, The Ascent Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) and Verwer Training and Consultancy (VTC).

Well met (again) at Stratford-upon-Avon!

Welcome to our 20th Anniversary Conference

I'm delighted to report that our two-day Conference at The Stratford Manor Hotel, Stratford-upon-Avon, was an undoubted success with good attendance and some amazing presentations and workshops enjoyed by all.

There were not one, but two Keynote addresses.  PI's Leader of Factory Marketing and PROFINET Expert Xaver Schmidt unveiled interesting new information about the future direction of our technologies while Simon Keogh, General Manager at Siemens Factory Automation & Control discussed Industrie 4.0, focusing on the requirements to be met before the "digitalisation of automation", which will shape the factories of the future can become a reality.

The conference concentrated on the real issues of implementation, maintenance and management of PROFIBUS and PROFINET systems and covered the latest developments in PROFIBUS and PROFINET technology for factory and process automation including safety, motion control, wireless implementations, integration with MES and of course, Industrie 4.0 - otherwise known as IIoT - the Industrial Internet of Things.

UK Certified PROFIBUS System Designers at Stratford
Andy Verwer presents Designer certificate to Peter Thomas Xiu Ji presents Designer certificate to Kris Hardaker

One of the highlights of the Conference was at the Gala Dinner, when two of the first ever UK Certified PROFIBUS System Designers were on hand to receive their certificates.

The course is very intensive, having been created in response to many requests from UK industry, in particular the water industry and defence main contractors. It fills a much needed requirement for qualified designers to ensure that PROFIBUS installations are correctly designed and specified from the outset.

Pictured from left to right are Andy Verwer from VTC presenting the certificate to Peter Thomas of Control Specialists, and Xiu Ji of MMU presenting Kris Hardaker of United Utilities his certificate.

The next opportunity to take the UK Certified PROFIBUS Designer course will be with VTC in October.

PROFIBUS in Process

PI has published a rather interesting new brochure on the subject of PROFIBUS in Process. Featuring a few "industry characters" it's both amusing and informative.

Sensors & Instrumentation for Test, Measurement & Control

Birmingham NEC, Sept 30/Oct 1

The PROFIBUS Group will be manning a stand and presenting 2 papers in the technical sessions at this year's Sensors & Instrumentation for Test, Measurement & Control exhibition. The presentations will be focused on the significance of PROFIBUS and PROFINET as enabling technologies for the Industrial Internet of Things.

The first will be on Wednesday 30th September. Presented by Peter Thomas of Control Specialists, it's entitled PROFINET, Industrie 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things.

Synopsis: IOT, IIOT, Industrie 4.0 are becoming popular topics of conversation, but what do they mean and where does PROFINET fit into the equation? This presentation will try to explain this and provide a clearer idea of the benefits of using PROFINET as part of an overall move towards these concepts, collectively known as the 4th Industrial Revolution.

The second is on Thursday 1st October. Entitled Industry 4.0 at the Sensor Level it will be presented by Simon Sumner of Pepperl + Fuchs.

Synopsis: This presentation covers the various levels of sensors (high tech, intelligent and commodity) and the challenges associated with getting these communicating both ways in/out of the IoT. At this level the challenges are about balancing communications IO functionality with device cost. It also addresses the future and how the IoT is reaching farther down into the commodity sensor layer and the concepts for 'next generation' low end connected devices and what value can be added.
