PROFIenergy news
At the SPS/IPC/Drives 2012 in Nuremberg PI presented an example of realistic potential savings using a practical live demonstration in which a robot guides a marionette within a robot cell.
This model illustrated how the energy management profile for PROFINET, PROFIenergy, can help automation systems save energy during production breaks. The marionette showed how equipment can be switched into different energy-saving levels depending on the type of break.
Up to 80% of the energy used by large systems such as robots is consumed during non-productive periods and is therefore wasted. By managing devices intelligently over PROFINET it's possible to save a lot of this wasted energy.
A short video clip shows the functionality of the live demonstration and explains PROFIenergy in general.

In addition PI produced an animated video "PROFINET for energy management" for further technical details. This video can be found here on the PI website. |
