Born Learning Tip of the Month
For your program and/or your parents
dad and son

Let's Get Moving!!!
Connection to Learning:
Young children benefit from having many opportunities for movement and physical activity in early childhood. Being active creates healthy habits and fosters a lifelong commitment to physical activity.

Health Tip - Influenza

Have you & the children in care received the Influenza Vaccine?

Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness that can cause mild to severe illness and can lead to death. Influenza season begins in early fall and can last through May. The best way to protect against the flu is by getting a flu vaccination each year.

To learn more information about the Influenza Vaccine 2013-2014 - What You Need to Know, click here Influenza Vaccine 2013-2014

Make sure to review and follow your Health & Infection Control Procedures and have the Seasonal Flu: A Guide for Parents posted in your program so that parents may easily view it.

Regulation Reminder
Know Your Regs!

Please remember that when it snows or is icy, programs must ensure that all pathways and exits are free of obstructions, impediments and debris at all times. Remember a blocked exit is not only a regulatory violation but a safety hazard to parents, staff and children.

Asthma Friendly Child Care Endorsement

The Council has partnered with the American Lung Association of New York to develop a pilot project directed at creating the safest child care environments for children with Asthma.

The overall goal of the Asthma Friendly Child Care Endorsement Initiative is to raise awareness, educate, train and support child care programs in order for them to provide healthier and safer child care environments for children with Asthma.   There is a high incidence of Asthma in Westchester, along with Asthma-related hospitalizations of children.

There will be a limited number of programs accepted during this introductory period. Programs accepted during the first round will receive special pricing.

For more information regarding the benefits and the process for endorsement read the Asthma Friendly Child Care Endorsement Informational Sheet, click here AFCCE Informational Sheet.

Fun Activity:
Take Time for a Rhyme

What was your favorite nursery rhyme when you were a young child?

"Experts in literacy and child development have discovered that if children know eight nursery rhymes by heart by the time they're four years old, they're usually the best readers by the time they're eight."
