 June 2015

June is Acro Month

At ATA our team athletes compete in the amazing sport of Acrobatic Gymnastics. We want our recreational students to experience the excitement of this sport as well, so we have included it in ATA's curriculum three months out of the year! During the months of March, June and September, students will get the opportunity to learn and practice the basics of this sport.

Acrobatic Gymnastics is a combination of partner skills, dance and individual acrobatic and tumbling skills. Athletes work in pairs or groups to perform skills of balance and of flight. The sport requires a great deal of strength, flexibility, balance and agility.

During Acro Months all classes will follow ATA's curriculum, allowing students to continue working on their individual tumbling and acrobatic skills. In addition, instructors will spend a few minutes of class time teaching foundational acrobatic skills. Students will learn some of the following: thigh stands, shoulder stands, candlesticks & basket tosses. These are just a few of the skills we have planned. Really...the list is endless! Learning and performing Acro is a blast!

Character Counts

We hope that last month's Character Counts theme will leave a lasting impression on ATA's staff, students and parents. Through fun skits and discussions, coaches and students talked about how to practically display these character traits: respect, responsibility, caring and citizenship. Thanks to everyone who helped to decorate our walls!

Acrobatic Gymnastics Team

Acro Gymnasts from all over California and from Arizona, Washington and even Canada competed this month at the highest level competitions held by Region 1.  Starting off the month, was State Championships, held in Mountain House near Tracy, CA, May 2-3.  ATA athletes shined and everyone received a qualifying score to advance to Regional Championships.  We were proud to bring home a team award for Level 8!

Wrapping up the month this past weekend, Region 1 hosted 2015 Regional Championships in Sacramento, CA.  With this competition being the final stop on the journey to National Championships, everyone had to put their best skills out on the floor and they did!  Earning many medals, Team ATA looked strong and everyone was ready for the challenge!  ATA earned team awards for levels 8, 10 and Jr Elite 12-18!  Those awards couldn't have been earned without attention to detail and consistently putting in the hard work beforehand!  Congratulations to those athletes that earned lifetime achievement pins!  Regional Championships high score awards were given for the level 8 trio of Rylee Park, Shannon Kennedy and Kelly Hanmore as well as the 12-18 Jr Elite women's group of Kaylee Witana, Romina Gupta and Cheyenna Jones.  Way to go girls!

We are very excited to get our end game going and to show off all the progress made by these dedicated athletes at National Championships which will be held the week of June 23-27 in Greensboro, North Carolina.  More hard work is in store for these athletes as we forge ahead to the biggest meet of the season!  We know they're going to be ready for it!

Have a Great Day!
