ATA Gymnastics Newsletter
 September 2014
September is Acro Month!

Acrobatic Gymnastics is such an amazing sport and we don't want to limit it to just ATA's competitive team athletes. We believe our recreational students should experience the excitement of the sport as well. For the past couple years now we have been periodically incorporating acrobatic gymnastics into our recreational lesson plans.   This has been a huge success and we want to carry on this momentum by bringing Acro Month back for September!

"What is Acrobatic Gymnastics?" you may be thinking. This beautiful sport is a combination of dance, individual acrobatic & tumbling skills and partner skills. Athletes work in pairs or groups to perform skills of balance and of flight. Best comparison-the acrobatic performances in a Cirque Du Soleil show!

During the month of September, students will continue their skill training on the important individual skill goals they have been working on. Instructors will take a small amount of time during each class to focus on this fun and challenging Acrobatic Gymnastics theme.

Gymster Gymnastics

Gymster Theme: ABC's 123's

As we go "back to school" this September, Gymster students will enjoy our ABC-123 theme weeks September 15th-27th. Students will roll and tumble through alphabet and number themed stations while practicing our skill of the month, crawling! For more info on our themes, skill of the month and upcoming events check out our Gymster Gazette by clicking HERE!

The Gymster program would like to welcome new teacher Ms. Jen to our coaching staff. Jen is excited to join our staff, is energetic, loves gymnastics and has two daughters who are on ATA's competitive Acro team. Say "Hi" to Jen the next time you see her around the gym!

Gymster National Gymnastics Day 2014

Join us for a SPECIAL Adventure hour on Friday September 19th, at 11:15-12:30 to celebrate    National Gymnastics Day! We will have themed activities and games, face painting, crafts and popsicles!

ABC's & 123"s

During the weeks of September 15th through September 27th, ATA will be getting into the Back to School spirit! All Intro Tumblers (3-6 years) will practice the alphabet and counting as they perform their gymnastics skills! You would never guess that the ABC's and 123's could be so much fun! All theme activities will follow ATA's curriculum and help to develop student's strength, balance, agility, coordination and flexibility. During circle time, students will sing the ABC song and participate in counting activities. We encourage you to practice letters and numbers at home so that your child can have the best possible learning experience!

National Gymnastics Week

This year we are changing it up a bit...No more National Gymnastics "Day." (except for the Gymster program).  We want to celebrate ALL WEEK! During the week of September 15th through 20th, all currently enrolled students will get to participate in a special gymnastics celebration. During each child's regular class, there will be a designated time for open practice. Students will be able to choose what they want to practice. Whether it be cartwheels on the floor or back handsprings on the Tumble Trak, all of the coaches will be available for spotting and instruction. At the end of each class, there will be an exciting Acrobatic Gymnastics performance by some of ATA's competitive athletes. It's sure to be a great week of gymnastics!

Acrobatic Gymnastics Team

Following our National Championships in July, August was a chance for our competition athletes to head back to the gym for intensive training that included strength conditioning, flexibility training and Acrobatic basic drills.  Continued training keeps athletes in shape and ready for our annual Team Try Outs! New athletes joined our open workout sessions and former athletes got opportunities to hone basic acrobatics or work in a different event or partner with someone new.  Official ATA team Try Outs took place the weekend of August 23rd and we had a chance to fill many open positions for the new year!  Coaches and management are super excited to welcome our new team members and get started with the official training schedule this September!

With our competition team selection nearly complete, we will look forward to October when ATA's Pre Team will get going in their first session of the new season!  Information will be coming out this week on this fabulous program that is a great introduction to basic Acrobatics!  If your kids love, love, love gymnastics, they will love learning additional, creative ways to expand that knowledge.  Fun, simple partner skills combined with tumbling and dance make for a wonderful, performance based gymnastics experience.  Our Pre Team program is open to Novice level and up students! Check with the front desk on the details and to sign up!
