November 2013
Giving Thanks!
Our celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday can be a reminder to teach our children the important character quality of thankfulness. During the month of November, all recreational classes will take a brief moment each week to talk about and discuss what thankfulness is and what we can be thankful for. At ATA, we want students to learn gymnastics; however, more importantly, we want students to grow in character. Let's make thanksgiving a way of life, not just a one-day event!
Christmas Shows
The signs are clear...a slight chill in the air, streets lined with twinkling lights, an explosion of festive decorations everywhere you look...yes, the holiday season is upon us!  At ATA we love this time of year.  We especially look forward to our long standing tradition of Christmas shows!  Our shows this year will be held Monday, December 9th- Saturday, December 14th. During this week, all enrolled students will get a chance to perform a choreographed routine which they will learn during their regular class time. This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate what your kids have been learning here at ATA.  Please mark your calendars and be sure to invite family and friends.  The more the merrier!

Gymster Gymnastics

Students and teachers had a blast at our Happy Harvest dress up Party! Thank you to everyone who brought treats and participated! For more pics of our event check out our November Gymster Gazette by clicking HERE!

To celebrate Thanksgiving, teachers and students will be discussing the character building concept of thankfulness during circle time. Students will get a thankfulness leaf to decorate at home, cut out and bring back to add to our Thankful Hearts Tree! You will be receiving a notice with our monthly theme song "I am thankful" this week. Please feel free to practice singing it with your Gymster at home!

Mark your Calendars!

Acrobatic Gymnastics Team

October welcomed fall and the beginning of ATA's Pre Team! We are excited to have nearly 2 dozen athletes participating this fall in the Pre Team Acrobatics program! Coach Taryn, Katie and Jocelle are getting starting working with the kids on early partnerships and elementary pair and group acrobatic skills. Athletes are also working on dance and individual elements that they will be using next month in their Christmas show performances. We are fortunate to have women's groups, pairs and mixed pairs this session. All the kids are showing great enthusiasm and early expertise. We are very excited to see how they progress!

Team ATA also had a busy month in October. Our National Team members got special, focused training by welcoming Tonya Case, National Team Coordinator, out for a joint training event with West Coast Training Center in Livermore, CA. Athletes conditioned, worked on perfecting and developing difficult skills and had opportunities to run competition routines during group training sessions. Junior and senior elite athletes were fortunate to have private sessions with the NTC!   It was a great training opportunity and affords the opportunity to develop strong bonds between athletes at different clubs who are working at the highest levels in our sport! Many of these same athletes are working towards international invitations as well as a chance to be named to National Team slots next year. With World Championships in France next July, many will shoot for a slot on the World Team so hard work now will make a difference come next summer!

A special event also took place Saturday, October 19th as most of our ATA Team athletes participated in the Light the Night Fundraiser Walk hosted by the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. Incredibly, through numerous donations both individually and corporately, ATA was able to raise over $5000 for the LLS! Athletes enjoyed the festivities early in the evening and the athletes and parents alike walked along the downtown San Jose course in support of this worthy fight! Thanks to Amanda Riley for coordinating this amazing opportunity and also to Dawn Billman for facilitating our fundraising efforts!
