August 2013
August is Balance Month!

Having completed a successful Flexibility Month during July, we are moving onto another extremely important aspect of gymnastics...Balance!  You may remember that this was our focus during the month of April.  We're bringing it back because it is essential for all gymnasts to continually work to improve their balance and body control.  During the month of August, all recreational classes will spend some extra time working on drills and skills that focus on balance.  Whether your child has been doing gymnastics for one month or is a seasoned gymnast with years of experience, balance training is so important and will in turn, have a positive effect on the overall progress of your child.  Click here for more info!

Super Heroes

ATA's Intro Tumblers (3-6 yrs) will jump, climb, flip and fly like their favorite super heroes during the weeks of August 12th through August 24th!  Students will use their imaginations and use their super hero powers to save the day!  All Super Hero activities will follow ATA's curriculum and help to develop student's strength, balance, coordination, agility and flexibility.

Gymster Program

Acrobatic Gymnastics Team

Congratulations are in order for the Women's Pair of Samantha Servellon and Madeline Bones for a silver medal finish at the 2013 International Turin Acro Cup in Italy!  Three different clubs from around the US participated.   There were medals all around as a multi-National club group took the competition floor in Turin, Italy July 5-7th.  Along with ATA's Women's Pair, in the 12-18 age group category, two other USA clubs participated, a Women's Pair and Women's Groups from Annapolis, MD and a Mixed Pair from Dallas, TX.  Timing on day one was just right as our team at home was able to take a quick break from early morning training to watch the live feed from Italy and cheer and support our pair as they got things started right with a solid dynamic routine.  With one day of competition under their belt, day two showed real confidence and poise as they earned a 27.4 for a very strong performance in balance.  A total score of 79.75 proudly earned the second place slot with a shiny silver medal!!

Summer Acro Camp in early July was a great experience for all participants! The kids had a great time learning acro basics, working on developmental skills and had time to watch amazing video performances that truly inspire.

Team ATA really brought their A game at the 2013 National Acrobatic Championships July 27-31st in Louisville, KY. The total medal count was 8 Gold medals, 6 silver medals, 1 Bronze and 1 6th place in the women's pair, level 6 category! The Elite finals competition on Monday night was especially exciting with a live webcast and the attendance of Steve Penny, USAG President!   The mixed pair of Anika Rix and Sean Wallace and the women's pair of Emily Zhao and Rhiannon Kelly were selected to the AGDT (Acrobatic Gymnastics Development Team)! Way to go pairs! Everyone represented ATA with poise, sportsmanship and professionalism! We are so proud of all the athletes and are happy that all the hard work, commitment and determination paid off! It is amazing to realize the competition year is wrapping up and we will start the process of putting it all together again. For now, congratulations to all the athletes and thank you to the parents and coaches that dedicated themselves to coach, mentor and fully support our amazing athletes this year!

ATA, ALL THE WAY, WHOOT, WHOOT!

Have a Great Day!
