September 2014                                             Helping Neighbors in Need in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody Since 1987.
  September is Hunger Action Month
Empty shelves at CAC Food Pantry.
It's Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign mobilizing the public to  take action on the issue of hunger. And no time is better to take action locally than now! Please donate to the CAC Food Pantry to help feed neighbors in need. The Pantry is low on food at this time as a result of typically fewer donations in the summer months.  If you have already made a donation, thank you! If you would like to donate please bring food to the Pantry at 1130 Hightower Trail in Sandy Springs, or make a financial contribution online where your dollar goes further when CAC buys food in bulk. The CAC Food Pantry is the busiest it's ever been receiving an average of 1,400 visits per month from local individuals and families in need. List of Most Needed Items

Thanks From a Family
Dear CAC,
I want to thank CAC and its staff and volunteers for the help you have provided to me, my daughter and her children. The food, financial assistance and holiday assistance has been a true blessing to us. We are very grateful for this help. The children's father is not in the home and the mother does not earn enough to make ends meet. The aide that you provide helps to fill in the gap while my daughter tries to get on her feet financially... we appreciate all of the help that CAC provides to us with dignity.
Thank you all!

CAC Awarded Grant for Food Pantry Improvements!
The Atlanta Community Food Bank has awarded CAC a grant for  improvements to the CAC Food Pantry! The grant was made possible through the  Food Bank and a matching donation from the Shumard Foundation.  The one-time capacity building grant will go toward a small refrigerated truck, additional refrigerators, electrical upgrades and additional shelving. The addition of a truck will allow CAC to pick up large food drives and large quantities of donated fresh foods in one trip. Currently CAC and group donors either borrow or rent trucks, or make multiple trips in personal vehicles. The upgrades and additional equipment will allow the food pantry to increase the total number of pounds of food distributed by 10 percent per year for the next five years! CAC currently distributes an average of 11,000 lbs. of groceries and 24,000 pounds of fresh and prepared foods per month or a total of 35,000 pounds. The pantry currently receives an all-time high of more than 1,400 visits a month, giving food to more 500-900 local families a month.
