A Little Help Goes a Long Way
Michael had a medical emergency that kept him in bed for several weeks and prevented him from working. He exhausted help from family members and was facing eviction. That's when he decided to call CAC. "I have joint custody of my 12-year-old daughter, so becoming homeless meant losing custody, so there was a great deal at stake for me," said Michael. A member of one of CAC's supporting congregations, the Church of Atonement, Michael knew of CAC, and he had once volunteered at one of CAC's fundraisers. CAC provided him with emergency financial assistance to pay rent and gave him food. CAC also referred him to another source for heating bill assistance, of which he followed up on and received. He came back to CAC to take a financial management class and let us know he was able to stay in his home. "I was grateful that CAC was there to help me, it made a huge difference for me at a really stressful and difficult time in my life," he said. He's still recovering, medically, and financially. He's working part time now and managing to make ends meet and hopes to get back to full time work soon. Donations by generous people like you allow CAC to help our neighbors in times of need like Michael.

Did you know that volunteers worked 19,857 hours at CAC in 2013? During that time CAC volunteers handled an average of 400 appointments a month, received more than 1,000 visits a month at the Food Pantry, gave clothes to 300 families a month, prepared and filed 354 tax returns for free, distributed 1,150 donated holiday gifts, packed and handed out 983 backpacks with school supplies and taught 250 adult education students! For these reasons and more CAC volunteers were honored for their service at the annual CAC Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon hosted by Temple Sinai in April 2014. Additionally, volunteers were acknowledged for going above and beyond their roles. See the entire story and the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon Photo Gallery on the CAC website!

1,000 Back Packs Needed for School Supply Program
CAC is seeking 1,000 new back packs to distribute to local students in need this summer. The contents of the backpacks will be ordered from a wholesale distributor thanks to an anonymous donor from Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church and matching donations which are expected to cover the cost of supplies for the third consecutive year. Please bring backpacks to CAC or make a donation online, and remember, every dollar you donate to CAC is multiplied by wholesale purchasing. Your donations of back packs, supplies and financial contributions will help a student start the year prepared to learn!

Do You Grow Veggies?
Dear gardeners, this summer as you harvest your homegrown vegetables, please don't leave the excess behind on the ground. Instead, donate it to the CAC Food Pantry and your fresh produce will go to families in need in our community! The CAC Pantry is a part of AmpleHarvest.org, a free nationwide network that enables gardeners to locate nearby pantries to donate their excess garden produce to. Help us spread the word! It's a simple, green, and a free way to help diminish hunger in the community.
