September 2013              Helping Neighbors in Need in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody since 1987.
SOS for Food
The Food Pantry shelves have never been so empty.
The CAC Food Pantry is running low on food and is in great need of donations. "This is the worst state of our shelves as far as I can remember and I have worked with CAC for 20 years," said CAC Executive Director Tamara Carrera.

Most needed items include Rice, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Cereal, Canned Vegetables, Soup, Tomato Sauce and Canned Meats such as tuna and chicken. Please bring donations to the CAC Food Pantry, Monday-Friday 9am-4pm or make financial donations online at www.oucac.org.

The food shortage is a result of a typical decrease in donations in the summer months combined with increased  requests for food. Demand for food from the CAC Pantry has increased by 57 percent since 2011. This year the Pantry is receiving an all-time high average of 1,200 visits per month. Of those visits are some families who come more than once a month. The CAC Food pantry provides food for an average of 500 local families a month. The Pantry is typically supplied on a regular basis by donations, but when a shortage occurs CAC is forced to purchase food with funds that could otherwise be used for emergency financial assistance.
Support CAC at the Vintage Affair
Join us at CAC's largest annual benefit the Vintage Affair, on Saturday, October 5, 2013, and help us raise much needed funds for the food pantry and the Center. The Vintage Affair is a highly anticipated, social evening event featuring foods from the best local restaurants, wine tastings from fine wineries, live music and exciting live and silent auctions. And because almost everything is donated for the event, almost every dollar raised goes directly to helping our neighbors in need. Funds raised each year at the Vintage Affair are a significant portion of CAC's annual budget. So come on out, bring your friends, get dressed up, and enjoy the 11th annual Vintage Affair! This year at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church, in their beautiful new event space and Ventulett Gallery.

The Giving Spirit
Sometimes it doesn't take a lot to give. A young member of our community recently celebrated a birthday. Instead of birthday gifts she asked for gift cards. The young lady then donated all 27 of the gift cards for various stores to CAC! The cards will be distributed to our neighbors in need during the holiday season. Thank you to our young donor for her giving spirit!
 Adult Education Students Celebrate
Our Adult Education summer session concluded with a celebration dinner on August 30 at North Atlanta Church of Christ. Students and their families, CAC volunteer teachers, CAC board members, staff and volunteers from Rivercliff Lutheran Church had a wonderful time! Certificates of accomplishment were handed out and everyone enjoyed a pot luck dinner of foods from our diverse students from around the world!
