 What $300 Can Do

Carolyn and Alan are a young couple with a 2 year-old daughter. They make ends meet on one small income by living in an affordable apartment and keeping utility bills low. Carolyn works while Alan cares for their daughter during the day. At night Alan goes to school to finish his college degree. In February the family found themselves unable to pay rent when Carolyn's hours and pay were cut in half for two months due to budget cuts. Luckily, they found CAC to help them stay in their home. CAC helped the family with rent in February. They also received free food from the CAC Food Pantry and free clothes from the Thrift Boutique, a great help with a growing toddler. While at CAC they learned about heating bill assistance through LIHEAP and applied. This combination of emergency assistance helped the family get through an unexpected financial crisis. Alan has since picked up some freelance jobs to help the family make ends meet until Carolyn's full income is restored. Just $300 and in-kind provisions made a huge difference in the lives of this family.
