2-1-1 Community Connection

April 2014

Message from Richard Porth
President/CEO, United Way of Connecticut

Early Learning and Development

Earlier this month, the Connecticut Early Childhood Education Cabinet published its Early Learning and Development Standards.  These standards provide guidance on what children should know and the capabilities they should have throughout their early years from birth to age five.

CT Early Learning and Development Standards The standards, which are available through the Office of Early Childhood website, were designed to support our state's vision for all young children to have high-quality learning experiences, and that their growth and development will be supported across all settings and through every year of their lives.

2-1-1 Child Care is incorporating these new standards into consumer education and training that it offers to parents and providers. To learn more, call 2-1-1 or visit the 2-1-1 Child Care website at www.211childcare.org.

Child Development Infoline (CDI), a free resource for parents and early care providers in Connecticut, is also using these standards to offer help and answer early childhood learning and development questions. CDI has expert care coordinators available to discuss challenging behaviors, developmental concerns, health or disability issues, as well as general child development topics.

CDI can be reached at its toll-free number (800) 505-7000. Regular hours are Monday through Friday from 8am to 6pm. Voice messages can be left 24 hours a day and are promptly returned.
