Greetings Open Door Art Studio Fans!

If the first two months are any indication, 2014 will go down in the history of Open Door for being especially awesome! To say that Wallace Peck's mural launch was a huge success is an understatement. Read on to learn about his superstar status and so much more!

WALLACE PECK IS LARGER THAN LIFE!
Mural Launch + Art Exhibition = Huge Success!

"I've been drawing my whole life. I like to make painted pictures so that people can look at my pictures and feel happy, feel good. I want to paint people... People I knows, peoples I trust. That's why I come here (Open Door Art Studio)."

Wallace Peck was born in 1963 and has always called central Ohio home. As soon as he picked up a paintbrush it was apparent that Wallace possessed a unique skill, and his artwork has been gaining a fan base that has increased exponentially each year. Wallace creates wonderful images and paintings which often incorporate figures. His work is easily identified by his distinctive faces with large, toothy grins and ringed eyes. His paintings have been featured in the Columbus Arts Festival, the Governor's Mansion and the Outsider Art Fair in Atlanta. Additionally, he exhibits through the Lindsay Gallery in the Short North area of Columbus.

Wallace Peck is a part of the 2014 vinyl mural project spearheaded by The Short North Alliance with generous financial assistance from the Create Columbus Grants Program of the Create Columbus Commission (CCC).  Wallace's mural featuring the painting, Lady Liberty is displayed on a building on the south-west corner of High Street and 5th Avenue. Open Door is forever grateful to Duff Lindsay of Lindsay Gallery for helping to facilitate this opportunity for Wallace.
Joey Monsoon and Wallace Peck

The mural launch was accompanied by a wonderful exhibition at Lindsay Gallery that partnered Wallace with fellow mural project artist, Joey Monsoon. His exhibit virtually sold out during the first two days! It will remain on display during the month of March. We are so proud of Wallace!

The Art of Lustron Show and Exchanges

Sharon Dorsey is taking part in The Art of Lustron show at Tacocat. Each of the 36 participating artists used a steel Lustron house panel to create a work of art. Lustron houses were a very ambitious answer to the post WWII housing shortage for returning GI's. Manufactured in Columbus from 1948-1950, they becoming instant pop culture icons as an early example of modular architecture. The exhibition will benefit the Whitehall Historical Society and the Lustron Preservation Society.
