Greetings Open Door Art Studio Fans!
2014 is off to a stupendous start! Our exhibition calendar is set and we are gearing up for This Inspired That in April. In the meantime, look for Open Door around town at the following events: - Hearts United in Franklinton on February 14th
- Wallace Peck is showing with Joey Monsoon at Lindsay Gallery, opening reception on February 28th
- VSA Ohio's Accessible Expressions Ohio 2014, featuring seven Open Door Artists, starts on March 2nd

Kyle McKay
Kyle McKay approaches each new art endeavor with a great attitude. He has loved drawing since he was twelve, but working in a studio setting is new to him. Since coming to Open Door, he has expanded his artistic repertoire to include more realistic subjects. He carefully  studies references and makes deliberate and confident line and color choices. In addition to creating visual art, Kyle writes songs. He confidently says that he "wants to be famous" someday and with his positive spirit it is hard to believe it will not happen. Kyle is also a proud employee at Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center where he graciously greets and directs guests. He is a kind-hearted soul who always puts his best foot forward.

SHORT NORTH MURAL FEATURES WALLACE PECK!
| | Open Door Artwork Larger Than Life!
 We are proud to announce that Open Door's Wallace Peck will be a part of the 2014 vinyl mural project spearheaded by The Short North Alliance with generous financial assistance from the Create Columbus Grants Program of the Create Columbus Commission (CCC). Wallace's mural featuring the painting, Lady Liberty will be displayed on a building on the south-west corner of High Street and 5th Avenue. Open Door is forever grateful to Duff Lindsay of Lindsay Gallery for helping to facilitate this opportunity for Wallace. This mural launch will be accompanied by a wonderful exhibition. Wallace will be exhibiting new work (in addition to the painting chosen for the mural) along with fellow mural project artist, Joey Monsoon, at Lindsay Gallery in March. Join us for the opening reception on Friday, February 28th from 6-9 PM at Lindsay Gallery! |
HEARTS UNITED
| | Open Door Takes Part in Art Project in Franklinton
 Open Door is thrilled to participate in Hearts United, a public art project taking place in Franklinton on Valentine's Day. Coordinated by Mona Gazala of Second Sight Studio, a lot on the east end of Bellows Avenue will temporarily be home to a myriad of colorful and meaningful hearts. Each heart will measure at least four feet square and will be hand crafted by local artists and activists. This public art event is in conjunction with One Billion Rising, a movement to raise awareness about the need to end violence against women. Open Door's studio artists collaborated on four hearts that will make their way over to Franklinton for the big event! Their artistic process was documented by WOSU TV for their program Broad & High. This arts program will cover the whole Hearts United event and is slated to air towards the end of February. You might just see us on TV! Read more about the event details here. Missed coming to Open Door openings?
We've missed you too!
Save the date! April 5th!
This Inspired That will be a collaborative exhibit featuring studio artists from Open Door Art Studio, the staff artists of Open Door, and twelve invited local artists. For the exhibit, the staff artists and the twelve local artists each selected a work made by a studio artist from Open Door that inspired them. They used that spark of inspiration to create a companion piece of art. Both works will be displayed side-by-side in this unique and engaging exhibit. This is the third annual This Inspired That exhibition and the 2014 round is shaping up to be quite an event!
