FEATURED ARTIST | | Ceith Purifoy
Ceith Purifoy is amazingly adept at illustration and he has a boundless imagination that leans toward the fantastical. He will often draw "creatures within creatures", with faces coming out of scales or even teeth of another creature. He carries around his sketchbook wherever he goes, and each studio session Ceith loves to share all of the amazing drawings he has created while away from the studio. In addition to drawing and painting, Ceith creates tiny houses and other miniatures out of clay. He has an impressive portfolio of paintings that depict some of his most interesting and inspiring imagery. His paintings are often tall and narrow, perhaps a subconscious reflection of Ceith's own impressive height. When he is not making art, he

loves to play video games, watch television and movies, and read comic books. Ceith's love of these media often infiltrates his artwork and these interests always find their way into the conversation at Open Door. Ceith was honored to receive the
first place award in the emerging artist category at the 2011 VSA Ohio's Accessible Expressions Exhibition for a sculpture titled Incognito. Ceith has some of the smallest works in the Small Wonders exhibit that opens at Open Door on June 8th.

about:
Recollections and Resurrections features paintings by Douglas Gantt. His thoughtful creations are often inspired by classic works of art. Through his layering process, he abstracts and reworks the themes of these paintings into subtle, new directions. Gantt's figures often dominate his compositions and are surrounded by complex settings. The varied scale of the settings creates a hierarchy, harkening back to the various stages of art history where bigger equated to more important.
Gantt's paintings transport viewers into a realm of his own creation. The stories, memories and history that contribute to each work only deepen the impact. In this exhibition each will be accompanied by a written explanation in Gantt's own words. His body of work represents recollections from his own lived experience melded with resurrections of classic works of arts.

WALLACE PECK AT LINDSAY GALLERY
| | Solo Exhibition Introduces Open Door Artist to the Short North!
Wallace's opening was a huge success! Thank you to everyone who was in attendance. His exhibition will be on view through June. Stop by when you are in the Short North!
 | Wallace Peck's Exhibition at Lindsay Gallery
|
where:
Lindsay Gallery
886 North High St. / Columbus, Ohio
when:
Month of June
about Wallace's art:
The eyes of Peck's figures stare out from a field of washy color, engaging directly with the viewer. The slight tilt of an eyebrow or mouth can change the entire mood of a work. When scanning Peck's body of work, similarities emerge. His vocabulary of elongated triangular noses and striped bodies repeats, but each arrangement is unique. Much like words can be recombined to create unlimited meanings, Peck's figures are structured with varied lines and evocative color combinations. The collection to be displayed at Lindsay Gallery is the most complex and innovative to date.

HUGE THANKS

Local Church Volunteers at Open Door
A HUGE thanks to Grace Central Church in Grandview for sprucing up the outside of our building! While we are busy making beautiful creations on the inside, we often forget about things like yard work and landscaping. Grace Central Volunteers to the rescue! They donated their time, materials and hard work to put in flower beds and beautify the outside! Thank you so much!
