Target Date:  March 27
Registration for the 38th MCM opens at noon Eastern (note the time) on Wednesday, March 27.  "The People's Marathon" remains a beacon for motivated, patriotic runners seeking a beautiful course and impeccable organization.  Registration for the annual Marine-orchestrated event includes a coveted participant shirt, event program, commemorative patch, free access to weekend events including the Runners Conference, live results, social media tracking and an award-winning finisher medal.  Add to those benefits an amazing tour of the nation's most recognizable landscape, support and inspiration from thousands of Marines, cheering throngs of admiring on-lookers and a lifetime of bragging rights to say you "ran Marine Corps."  The 38th MCM will be held on Sunday, October 27.
Insider MCM Registration Tips
In 2012, the MCM opened registration for 30,000 runners and then very quickly closed, having sold all entries in just two hours and 41 minutes.  The record-breaking time ushered in a new era of rapid fire marathon registrations.  To best support the high demand and heavy volume of traffic, the MCM has been working with the online registration service to test system capacity in hopes of avoiding delays and server issues.  Tip #1:  Once the registration form has been opened, please fill out all fields thoroughly and completely and consider which items you wish to purchase.  Brooks training shirts and hats, MarathonFoto super coupon, Carbo Dining-In tickets and the MCM Online Trainer will be on sale.  Tip #2:  After submitting payment, a confirmation message will appear on screen.  Print this message as it includes individual runner registration ID numbers.  Tip #3:  Don't freak out if you fail to receive a confirmation email immediately after completing the registration process.  The distribution of confirmation emails will be delayed to reduce stress on system during open registration.

Early Discounted Registration Offered to Active Duty and Reserves
MCM early access with special discounted registration for all Active Duty and Reserve service members is available now.  Military personnel from all branches of the armed forces will save 15 percent (sounds strikingly similar to those GEICO ads right?) off  the  entry fee.  Presented in partnership with MCM sponsor GEICO, the military discount that reflects GEICO's popular slogan concludes on March 24 at midnight Eastern.
Runners Club Members Receive Special Extended Registration
Runners who have completed at least five MCMs are eligible to join the MCM Runners Club and receive a guaranteed entry into the marathon for life. Membership is free and registering is easy!  Simply complete the online form and the MCM team will verify the application.  MCM Runners Club members will receive exclusive extended access to register for the 38th MCM.  This special window will open on April 3 and offers Club members the luxury of skipping the online frenzy that traditionally occurs during public registration.  All members will receive an email with registration information.

Working for the Weekend

Months of training, tireless dedication, laser focus on the ultimate mission-complete the MCM.  But there's so much more to participating in "The People's Marathon."  Make the weekend visit to the nation's capital and Arlington, VA extra memorable by planning time to tour as well as attend all the MCM Weekend events including the Health & Fitness Expo presented by GE from Thursday, October 24 to Saturday, October 26, First Timers Pep Rally, MCM Runners Conference, Carbo Dining In and MCM Runners bRUNch.  On April 17, registration opens for the Healthy Kids Fun Run to be held on October 26 and the wildly popular MCM10K to be held on October 27.

Double Time!  Run with the Marines in May, too
You've heard the legend of Hospital Hill in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  Even more glorious than a finisher medal, saying you scaled the endless climb is the true badge of honor.  Take a run at the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon in easily accessible Fredericksburg on May 19.  Boasting a grandiose start line adorned in stars and stripes, a course overloaded with crowds and entertainment, a technical competitor shirt and a unique and stunning finisher medal, the Historic Half has become a favorite running destination for runners from the Commonwealth and across the country.  Held on May 19, the Historic Half also includes the new Historic 10K and Semper Fred 5K-both courses include Hospital Hill.

MCM Event Series Introduces Tri
The MCM moves beyond exclusively hosting running events by introducing the inaugural Quantico Triathlon, a sprint distance race, on Sunday, August 18 aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico. Hosted adjacent to The Clubs at Quantico aboard the Marine Corps Base, the Quantico Tri is sure to bring fast times and fun to all who participate. Located in the heart of the base, this event features a 400 meter snake outdoor pool swim followed by a swift 9-mile ride circling Lejeune Hall, the leadership center of the Marine Corps Base. Once athletes are finished with the bike portion, they will run a scenic 5K course that loops through the air facility, a section of the base otherwise not accessible. Registration opens May 15 and is limited to just 300 athletes.

Run for a Cause with MCM Charity Program
Last year's MCM saw nearly 5,000 of its participants running to raise funds for a charitable organization through the MCM Charity Partner program. Combined, these charity runners raised more than $3.4 million for various causes, making the MCM an impactful event for advancing charity work and generating awareness for all associated groups.  In the January edition of "Runner's World," the magazine recognized the MCM as the "best marathon for charities."  Find inspiration by dedicating your 2013 MCM participation to a specific cause or organization.  More than 120 different charity partners are already recruiting runners to assist in raising funds and awareness for their missions by training for and completing the MCM.
