Best Half Marathon in History

You don't have to wait another 10 months to experience the thrill of running with the Marines. Boasting a grandiose start line adorned in stars and stripes, a course overloaded with crowds, scenery and entertainment, a technical competitor shirt and stunning finisher medal, the Historic Half has become a favorite running destination for motivated runners from Virginia and across the country. Registration opens on January 23. The 2013 Historic Half takes runners on 13.1 mile journey from the retail hub of Central Park through the historic downtown streets, up the now famous Hospital Hill to awaiting Marines at the Historic Half finish line. Historic Half Weekend features the Healthy Lifestyle Expo, the Semper Fred 5K and, starting in 2013, the Marine Corps Historic 10K. A quick drive of just 50 minutes from DC and Richmond, Fredericksburg hosts the Marine Corps Historic Half-- the best half marathon in history!

New Historic 10K Conquers Hospital Hill

The Marine Corps Historic Half showcases a new way to tackle Hospital Hill in 2013 with the introduction of the Marine Corps Historic 10K on May 19. Runners can now register to participate in Historic Half Weekend by running a brand new 6.2 mile course featuring the infamous Hospital Hill, the 200 foot, two mile climb that takes its name from its location on the campus of Mary Washington Hospital. Ironically, and to the amusement of those runners with a good sense of humor, this portion of the course passes directly by the emergency room of the hospital, with trauma signs decorating the uphill climb. Replacing the relay competition, the Historic 10K starts in downtown Fredericksburg and shares a finish with the Historic Half at the Fredericksburg Expo and Conference Center. Runners must maintain a 20 minute-per-mile pace.

Semper Fred 5K Becomes Point-to-Point

Whether a first step on a new running journey, an all-out assault on a personal record, a casual 3.1 mile run or a Sunday morning pre-brunch activity, the Semper Fred 5K offers motivated runners the chance to experience race day excitement and the thrill of crossing a big time finish line. With a name that represents the character of its two hosts, the Semper Fred 5K combines the Marine Corps slogan of Semper Fi with the abbreviated nickname of this city affording its runners the best of both cultures on a challenging run. The 3.1 mile run moves to a new format in 2013 with the introduction of a point-to-point course from Route 1 to the Historic Half finish line at the Expo and Conference Center. For those familiar with the Fredericksburg terrain, this means the new course does indeed incorporate Hospital Hill. In fact, much of the course is now an uphill climb to the finish. The new Semper Fred 5K will be held on Sunday, May 19. Unlike previous years, the Semper Fred 5K course is not open to strollers. The course time limit requires a 20 minute-per-mile pace.
