Dark Side of Philadelphia History Extravaganza

Celebrate the Anniversary of the Young Friends of Independence National Historical Park

Join us for the macabre party everyone is talking about!  On October 10th, we invite you to spend your night with historical characters, meet the greatest horror writer to ever live in Philadelphia, and of course, enjoy tasty refreshments.

Old City Fest

 

Join Friends of Independence, Independence National Historical

Park and Eastern National bookstore this Sunday for
Old City Fest

 

More than six dozen Old City businesses will be participating in, or sponsoring, Old City Fest on Sunday, October 12. The event will showcase Old City designers, creative firms, restaurants, retailers and galleries, as well as theater, cultural history and architecture.

 

Old City Fest will run in conjunction with DesignPhiladelphia, in recognition of their tenth anniversary. There will also be performances from theater groups and musical acts as well as activities for the kids.


The festival will be on the north side of 3rd Street between Market to Race and Arch street between 2nd and 4th Streets.  there will be plenty of things to o to keep you entertained

In the Mind of Poe

Special Tour of Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site

532 N. 7th Street
 

Encounter characters from the imagination of Edgar Allan Poe, author and former resident of Philadelphia.  


 

Join park staff and volunteers on this "haunting" literary tour through Poe's house.  Meet memorable narrators and Poe himself as they recite passages from popular tales such as "Annabel Lee," "Tell-Tale Heart," "Black Cat" and "Murders in the Rue Morgue."  Tours begin every 30 mins.


 

Tours limited to 25 people; first come, first serve

A Global Fight for Independence

The American Revolution was not simply a war between Great Britain and the American

colonies. With help from new allies like the Marquis de Lafayette and Thaddeus

Kosciuszko, the struggle becomes an international fight for freedom.

 

Date: Saturday and Sundays in October

Time: 3:00 pm (approximately 30 minutes.)
