Dark Side of Philadelphia History Extravaganza
Celebrate the Anniversary of the Young Friends of Independence National Historical Park

Join us for the macabre party everyone is talking about!  On October 10th, we invite you to spend your night with historical characters, meet the greatest horror writer to ever live in Philadelphia, and of course, enjoy tasty refreshments.

Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia

Join a park ranger for a walk through historic Old City Philadelphia, and hear the stories of the officers, the soldiers, and the civilians during the British occupation of Philadelphia during America's war for independence. On the morning of September 26, 1777, Philadelphians awoke to the sound of fifes and drums playing the familiar tune, "God Save the King." The British Army had arrived and would hold the city for nine months (1 hour).

Dates: Saturdays and Sundays in September
Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: Franklin Court Courtyard, between Market and
Chestnut Streets, and 3rd and 4th Street
Cost: FREE



 
Battle of Brandywine Lecture and Book Signing

Join author Michael Harris for a discussion of his book, Brandywine: A Military History of the Battle that Lost Philadelphia, but Saved America.

Join Michael C. Harris, author of Brandywine: A Military History of the Battle that Lost Philadelphia but Saved America, September 11, 1777, as he examines the Battle of Brandywine from the unique perspective of the British army.

Mr. Harris' talk coincides with the park's weekend British Occupation walking tour at 2 PM. Michael Harris is a former National Park Service ranger and Museum Educator for Brandywine Battlefield State Historic Site. He will be available for questions and a book signing following the lecture (2 hours).

Location: Benjamin Franklin Museum, Franklin Court, between Market and Chestnut
Streets, and 3rd and 4th Streets
