Twilight Tours

The Twilight Tours are starting tonight!

 
Free walking tours of Independence National Historical Park led by enthusiastic volunteers who love to share the history of our nation.
 
Don't miss out on this summer tradition!!  Tours will be meeting at the Ranger Desk of the Independence Visitor Center at 6 pm. 
 
Tours occur daily from June 11th thru Labor Day.

Freedom 5K Run
  
Will you fight for King and country or will you take the chance and fight for Independence?  The choice is yours to make!
  
Join us on Sunday, June 29th as we "run it out" for freedom.  Will the Patriot's win this country again or will we all be singing
God Save the Queen after the run?
  
The 5K course will take you through the streets of Old City, along Penn's Landing and up through the scenic pathways of Independence National Historical Park.  This is the only 5K run on the east side of the city and you can not beat the views!  Plus you will have historical characters like Dolley Madison and Thomas Jefferson cheering you on along the course!

Stripes  and StarsFestival
Saturday, June 14th

 

From star-spangled banners to five-star generals, Philadelphia celebrates the shared birthday of two of our country's greatest institutions-the American flag and the U.S. Army!
  
Some activities scheduled for the day:

13- Star Flag Raising at the Betsy Ross House, 9 a.m.
Betsy Ross herself raises a 13-star flag in the Betsy Ross House courtyard to kick off the day's events.

 

50- Star Flag Raising and Grand Parade at the National Constitution Center, 10 a.m.
Following a 50-star flag raising, troops-past and present-will join a patriotic parade to Independence Hall.

 

Stripes and Stars Festival Opening Ceremony Independence Hall, 10:25 a.m.
Independence National Historical Park Superintendent Cynthia MacLeod will read the original act that established the flag of the United States, followed by a reading of the Mayor's Army Birthday Proclamation, remarks by military dignitaries, and a special enlistment ceremony.  After the ceremony, watch as the U.S. Army's Black Daggers parachute onto Independence Mall!

 

Philadelphia Flag Day Association Exhibition Ribbon Cutting and Awards Ceremony at National Constitution Center, 12:15 p.m.
Celebrate the opening of a unique display of historic American Flags.

 

"Raise it Up! Anthem for America" Performance and Flag Lowering Ceremony at National Constitution Center, 4 p.m.
Join the chorus for a rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner in honor of its 200th anniversary.
Presented in partnership with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania

 

Giant Flag Folding and Family Concert in front of Independence Hall, 5:00 p.m.
Participate in a giant flag folding followed by a performance by the U.S. Army Brass Quintet.
