December Speaker Series

1st Person Interpretation: Integrity...and Art

Presented by Cynthia Janzen

Synonyms for Interpretation: Clarification, Understanding, Explanation, Reading, Elucidation, Analysis

First person interpretation presents many challenges, particularly in the presentation of historic personae who are not well documented. How do we engage our visitors, do justice to our predecessors, maintain factual integrity, and instill thought, excitement and understanding in those we encounter? This program's intent is to open a dialogue about how, through the marriage of a scholarly approach and some basic tools of the Theatre, this can be done .  Some of the topics to be covered include:

  • It's interpretation not a dissertation.
  • Handling tricky situations
  • Walking a mile in their shoes
  • The information costume and setting provide
  • Factoid regurgitation: the enemy of the people
