Public Reading of the Declaration

On Monday, July 8th you are invited to join the staff of Independence National Historical Park to commemorate the anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence.

 

Reading of the Declaration  

 

This free event begins at 11:45 a.m. with an introduction by a park ranger and will be held on the south side of Independence Square. 

 

If you would like to be near the stage, you will have to go through security at 5th and Chestnut Streets to access the square.

Purse of the United States: How it all Began

         

July 10 - 3:00-3:30 - Portrait Gallery in the Second Bank of the U.S. 

 

Before the creation of the Federal Reserve, the First and Second Banks of the United States (here in Philadelphia) served as financial guardians of a new nation.

 

Join a Park Ranger for a slide show to examine the unifying role of a single, common currency and learn about the panics, problems, and political struggles that plagued the creation of the American financial system.

Pops on Independence!  

Independence Hall

8:00 p.m.

Peter Nero and the Philly Pops® return to celebrate America's birthday with "POPS on Independence," a free concert at Independence Hall. Come join the celebration and participate in one of Philadelphia's most popular Fourth of July traditions.  

 

   Friends Volunteer

 Note: Seating is first come, first served. Concert goers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Don't forget to say "hi" to our volunteers out there!  They will be the one's with the flags!

July 4th Activities

Independence Day Ceremony

10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Celebrate our nation's birth with a patriotic salute! Music, speeches and a reading of excerpts from the Declaration of Independence will pay tribute to the history of our nation.

 

Located in front of Independence Hall, Seating is first come, first served, but there is plenty of lawn to go around.

 

Independence Day Parade

11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Brings your flags, patriotic spirit and plenty of energy to America's best 4th of July parade! Featuring over 5,000 patriotic and multicultural marchers, musicians, dancers and floats.  You won't want to miss the 2013 Independence Day Parade! 

 

Parade will start in front of Independence Hall at the corner of 5th and Chestnut Streets.  Parade viewers are welcome to stand or sit anywhere along the parade route.

 

 

Liberty Bell Tapping Ceremony

 

1:00 p.m. and 2:00 pm

Join the Descendents of the original Declaration of Independence Signers, as they honor their ancestors be ceremonially tapping this symbol of American Freedom.  Choose to attend the ceremony behind Independence Hall at 1:00 p.m.  or grab your spot early at the Liberty Bell Center and watch as the Descendents make their way to the Liberty Bell Chamber to ceremonially tap the Liberty Bell.

 

* Please be in line for the Liberty Bell Center by 1:00 p.m. to gain access to the Bell Tapping Ceremony.

Located on the South Side of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell Chamber
