The Twilight Tours are starting tonight!

 
Free walking tours of Independence National Historical Park led by enthusiastic volunteers who love to share the history of our nation.
Don't miss out on this summer tradition!!  Tours will be meting at the Ranger Desk of the Independence Visitor Center at 6 pm.

Flag Day
 

 June 14 from 9:00-11:00 is Flag Day here on Independence Mall! 

 

Join the National Park Service, the United States Army, the Philadelphia Flag Day Association, the City of Philadelphia and the National Constitution Center to celebrate the birthday of the United States Army and Flag Day. The event begins at the National Constitution Center at 9:00 with a procession through the Mall to a flag raising ceremony in front of Independence Hall at 10:00. After the ceremony visitors can enjoy birthday cake and view exhibits and modern US Army tactical vehicles at locations throughout the Mall.

Happy (Founding) Father's Day Weekend

 

June 15 and 16 at 3:00 - Portrait Gallery in the Second Bank of the U.S.

 

Have you ever wondered about the family lives of the Founding Fathers? What did their wives and children think of their political activities? Join a park ranger and learn about the sacrifices and hardships facing the families of the Founders as these Fathers forged a new nation. (30 minutes)

Join a park ranger for a slide program that discusses the historical background of the Declaration of Independence from the execution of Charles the First through the Enlightenment. (30 minutes)

Join a park ranger for a slide program that shows the 4th of July through the years from John Adam'=s' letter about how it would be celebrated to Susan B. Anthony's speech on July 4, 1876, to "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and beyond. (30 minutes)

Pops on Independence

 Friends Volunteer

The Pops are back this year!  The concert that really puts our City of Brotherly Love in the Patriotic Spirit will be happening again on Independence Mall on July 3rd!  


The Friends of Independence will be out there that night, handing out American Flags, providing information and sharing good will with all concert goers.  If you would like to be a part of the fun event and guarantee yourself a seat for the concert, then come volunteer with us.

Wawa Welcome America Events

 

From July 1st thru the 7th, Philadelphia will be bustling with 7 excitement-filled days of free family fun with Wawa Welcome America! Experience an abundance of food, culture, children's programming, entertainment and patriotic fun for residents and visitors alike.  Here's some of what's going on in and around Historic Philadelphia for the Fourth:

 

TUESDAY, JULY 2: WAWA HOAGIE DAY

  • Independence Mall,
    Market Street between 5th & 6th Streets
    Noon - 2 p.m.

Wawa will serve a 4.5 ton "hoagie salute" to visitors attending the 21st annual Wawa Hoagie Day. Stop by the letter writing station to create cards and letters for our troops. You won't want to miss a concert by the USO Show Troupe or the hoagie building contest to recognize the USO and our local police and fire personnel. Wawa Hoagie Day is Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Deliciousness at its finest. Free admission to the National Constitution Center is provided all-day, courtesy of Wawa.

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 3: POPS! ON INDEPENDENCE

  • Independence Hall
    8 p.m.

Peter Nero and the Philly POPS! return to celebrate America's birthday in America's birthplace. Arrive early with your blanket and lawn chairs to enjoy one of Philadelphia's most popular July 4th traditions

 

Thursday, July 4: CELEBRATION OF FREEDOM CEREMONY

  • Steps of Independence Hall, 6th & Chestnut Streets
    10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

A patriotic and inspiring morning full of music, speeches and a reading of excerpts from the Declaration of Independence will make this Fourth of July unforgettable.

 

Thursday, July 4: PHILADELPHIA INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE

  • Throughout Historic Philadelphia
    11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Witness more than 5,000 participants as they celebrate America's birthday marching through the nation's most historic square mile.

 

Thursday, July 4: LET FREEDOM RING

  • Independence Square, 5th & Market Streets
    1 p.m. - 2 p.m.

The ceremony starts on Independence Square and concludes with the symbolic Liberty Bell tapping.
*Note: To view bell tapping, be in the Liberty Bell Center by 1:30 p.m..
