We are happy to announce that our 2nd annual Symposium will be on Saturday, February 23rd and this year we are focusing on education, specifically educators and the multiple ways today's youth learns and relates to information. Our Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Benjamin Filene, Director of Public History and Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.

Roy Goodman: Feasting with the
Founding Fathers
In celebration of Benjamin Franklin's birthday and in anticipation of the new Franklin Museum opening this summer, we have asked Roy Goodman, Librarian for the American Philosophical Society's Librarian and the author of A Search for Sustenance: Food, Nutrition and Agriculture in Benjamin Franklin's Writings, to speak on Benjamin Franklin. In this presentation, Mr. Goodman will reveal some of the rarer and more interesting sides of this Founding Father. We will learn what Ben Franklin and his contemporaries feasted on and what you would see on their daily tables.

Mr. Joe Becton - "Africans and the Big Three Documents"
Mr. Becton is Founder and Director of Becton Tours and Historical Services. He worked as a Supervisory Park Ranger at Independence National Historical Park from 2001-2009 and as Director of Visitor Services at Historic Fort Mifflin from 1989 to 1992.
Even though Africans were not participants in the important "meetings" that created the three most important documents in our country, they did create a presence in the documents. Mr. Becton's presentation will review the documents to see their impact on Liberty, Freedom and Independence. It will include discussion of the construction of the City, African Education and organizational development.
