What Tweeting can do for Your Restaurant

Twitter is a communication platform that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as tweets. It now has more than 500 million users worldwide. You can use it to quickly share information with people interested in your restaurant, gather real-time feedback and build relationships with customers. When you combine messages that are quick to write, easy to read, public, controlled by the recipient and exchangeable anywhere, you've got a powerful way to communicate with your customers.

To listen in on the conversations happening right now, search Twitter for the name of your restaurant. If you have a Twitter account already, your home page has a handy search box on the right side.

Updates in real time are probably the most important new tool in the hospitality industry.

Is it Time to "Go Mobile?"

Smart-phone manufacturers, application developers, and third-party POS device manufacturers are bringing more business-related functions to smart phones. The reason is clear: mobile payment transactions are expected to grow to nearly 4.5 billion in 2012. That's a 429% increase from an estimated 850 million in 2009, according to consulting firm Gartner Inc.

As more and more customers "leave their wallets at home" and rely on mobile devices to make payments, their expectations are changing. They love the convenience-but are concerned about the security of their information. Merchants who can satisfy both requirements may have a competitive edge.

For small business owners, merchants who conduct business at trade shows, and service providers that work off-site, mobile credit card processing creates a new opportunity to attract consumers who spend with plastic.

 Catering Services Go Green

The holiday season is the time for office celebrations, family gatherings, and lots of catered food. In fact, conversations at these parties are often centered around the h'ordeurves - "Have you tried the vegetable tart? This caterer is fantastic!" But catering services extend far beyond the food that is served, from the energy used to transport the vegetables on your plate, to the way that plate is cleaned at the end of the night.

The Green Restaurant Association (GRA) has worked with dozens of caterers across the country to help reduce the environmental impacts of their operations. These Certified Green Restaurant® caterers have earned at least 100 GreenPoints™ through the GRA's rigorous certification standards by taking steps to conserve water and energy, reduce waste and pollution, and use sustainable ingredients and disposables. Plus, given that 79% of our country's population prefers to dine at Certified Green Restaurants®, these caterers are offering diners even more to talk about!
