As a Masters athlete, your time is a valuable commodity. Whether you're trying to fit your swimming workouts in between your work, family, or even just golf outings-chances are slim that you have unlimited time to train, so you have to make the most of your time both in and out of the water. The long, high-yardage workouts that you swam as an age grouper may not fit into your current schedule.

3000/6000 ePostals Kick Off Soon
The fall postal season is nigh upon us

Just as the long course postal championship season is winding down (Sept. 15 is the deadline for swimming the Speedo USMS 5K/10K Postal National Championship), the short course postal season is just kicking off.

The Speedo USMS 3000/6000-Yard Postal National Championship opens on Sept. 15 and runs through Nov. 25 and can be done in any 25-yard or 25-meter pool. Hosted by Central Oregon Masters Aquatics, the event is easy to take part in; simply swim the distance and have a counter make note of your split times on the handy split sheet. Then, once you've dried off, you can submit your results and see how you stack up against the competition across the United States. It's a great way to get in a long workout while also getting a taste of some national-level competition. Good luck and swim fast!

Congrats on Summer Nats!
A fun, fast event for all
Men's butterfly 2014 summer nationals
Congratulations to all the competitors who came out to the Eppley Natatorium at the University of Maryland at College Park for the 2014 Marriott U.S. Masters Swimming Summer National Championship last month. We hope you made new friends, personal bests, and lots of great new memories. Results are now posted. You can also review and purchase photos from the event by visiting Peter H. Bick's Summer Nats gallery; he's got some great shots from this fun meet!

We look forward to seeing you all again at the 2015 Nationwide USMS Spring National Championship to be held in San Antonio, Texas, April 23 through 26. Until then, keep swimming!
Fuel Your Sleep
Special Advertorial from the Professionals at P2Life
Insomnia

If you aren't consuming a nutritionally dense, low-calorie meal near bedtime, your body can go into a catabolic state, "cannibalizing" itself while you sleep. Sleep is the most critical time of every 24-hour day. While the body is at rest, it's best prepared to focus solely on growth, recovery, repair, and rejuvenation. Depending on when you eat, when you work out, and when you go to bed, even a nutritious dinner may not meet the demand to replenish nutrients depleted during the day's work and sport.

RMST recruits family members to swim at Worlds
Reston Area Masters at 2014 Worlds, Montreal, Canada
Based in northern Virginia, Reston Masters Swim Team had a very light roster of swimmers willing to travel the week before Summer Nationals to Montreal, Quebec for the 2014 FINA World Championship event--the team was focused on Summer Nationals in nearby College Park. Lucy Manheim says they could only field two relays when they first started trying to assemble the team, but some creativity led to them eventually fielding eight relay teams that competed in six events at Worlds. "We recruited family members to join us," she says, and this included two nonswimmers who had to train and get ready to swim. The newbies rose to the challenge and the team of 17 swimmers had a blast in the French Canadian city. "We were light on medals but heavy on pride and spirit," Manheim says. Congratulations, RMST and well done on finding a way to make this meet happen!

In addition to all the great photographs renowned swimming photographer Peter H. Bick captured at the 2014 Marriott USMS Summer National Championship last month, we also shared lots of other images on our Facebook page, including a round up of images from day three of the competition that got a lot of comments and shares. Bill Updegrove wrote, "These pictures may have been the inspiration I needed to get my rear-end back in the pool. I have missed it. Congrats everyone!" See what else they wrote and join the conversation.
