The Speedo USMS 3000/6000-Yard Postal National Championships
are now under way!
Between now and November 15, swim a 3000 and/or 6000 for time in any eligible 25-yard or 25-meter pool. Have a friend take your splits and then submit your results to see how you stack up to other swimmers across the country. It's a fun and simple way to get a taste of national competition right in your own pool.

Swimming for Science
What motivates Masters swimmers to spend hours training in the pool or lake? A group from the University of Ottawa is performing a study (Analyses of Influences on the Sport Commitment and Participation of Master Athletes) to help define what motivates us as a distinct group. Want to help them out? Then take their survey. As a way of saying thank you for your time, you'll be entered into a drawing to win one of six $50 prizes.
Congratulations to Allan Kopel of Haverhill, Mass., who won a snorkel, paddles, and goggles in the random drawing of the participants in the Sports Medicine and Science Committee drylands habits survey. The data collected will help the SMS Committee design effective dryland training programs for Masters swimmers. The Committee is grateful to the more than 1,200 survey respondents!

Amid the anticipated dolphins, otters, and sea turtles, a few funny responses surfaced. How about "the mighty tube worm," as Dave Barra noted? Or mermaids, suggested by Jennifer Laws Barker who said, "I saw them on Discovery, so they must be real!" Find out what else our clever swimmers came up with and add your own favorite aquatic critter to the mix. Become a Fan! We are 25,000+ fans strong at the official USMS Facebook Fan Page.
