 | Masters Workout Writing Made Simple
|
by Coach Scott Bay, Team Blu Frog | |
Essential questions to consider when writing your workouts
Most age group teams are divided up by age and ability, with different workout times, or at least a coach on deck for each group. How many Masters coaches do you have on deck to handle your newbies all the way up to your Trials qualifiers? This wide range of abilities are all in the same pool at the same time, a challenging situation that doesn't take into account differences in age, fitness, and health. Do you have just one coach trying to serve them all? Probably, as that's the case for most Masters programs. Read more...

| Pan-American Championships Results Now Up!

|
| |
Pan-Americans wraps up with a splash!

Tropical Storm Andrea couldn't keep more than 1,500 swimmers hailing from 24 countries around the world from descending on Sarasota's Selby Aquatic Center from June 1 through June 13 for the 2013 Pan-American Masters Championship. And it wasn't just the storm that made this meet historic; this was the first time that the U.S. has played host to this biennial event spanning pool competition, synchronized swimming, and open water racing. And what a meet it was! Searchable pool results are now available online along with results from the 1K and 3K open water races. All new USMS and World records are also posted online. Congratulations to all the swimmers and coaches who traveled from far and wide to attend. It's not often that we get to swim with such a range of amazing swimmers from Kazakhstan and Ukraine to Brazil and Canada. Thanks for making this such a memorable event!

What Rule is THAT?!

|
with Kathy Casey, USMS Rules Chair
| |
Rules for alternate starts
Q: Several of my swimmers do their starts in the water instead of from the blocks or the deck. If they are doing forward starts, are they required to face forward in the water while waiting for the starting signal? A: No. USMS rules specifically state that the swimmer who starts in the water for a forward start may face any direction (101.1.1, end of last sentence). In addition, when doing freestyle, a swimmer may do a backstroke start (101.5.1). All rule references are from the 2013 USMS Rule Book, which can be viewed or downloaded from the usms.org website. For any questions about rules contact Kathy Casey, USMS Rules Chair |
