| The USMS Open Water Committee is pleased to invite LMSC open water officials and open water event hosts to attend a live Open Water Safety Webinar presented by Jim Wheeler, Chair of the Open Water Safety Subcommittee. Jim has more than 30 years experience in aquatic risk management, safety, and training for venues; including waterfronts, beaches, pools, and water parks. Jim is the president of Total Aquatic Management, an aquatic consulting and training company. He frequently gives safety workshops during the USMS Annual Meeting. The offered webinar includes up-to-date information on open water safety and USMS safety regulations.
There is one more presentation available, and the due date to sign up is Thursday May 2, 2013:
- Sunday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. EDT
Screensharing will be used so you can follow the accompanying PowerPoint presentation. You'll also be able to send questions to Jim during the webinar through the provided Chat Room capability. One of the webinars will be recorded and posted on usms.org should you need to review the materials.

Peer-to-Peer LMSC Development Program | In 2012, many convention delegates participated in peer-to-peer discussions as part of a "brainwriting" workshop for LMSC volunteers. The LMSC Development Committee is extending that opportunity to all LMSC volunteers through two methods: USMS Discussion Forums (online) and periodic teleconference calls.
We invite all LMSC volunteers to log on to the USMS Discussion Forums at their convenience and subscribe to the LMSC Administration threads that get posted.
The teleconference conversations will begin with LMSC Treasurers, who are invited to participate in a call on on Monday April 22, at 9:00 p.m. EDT. Please email your RSVP to obtain the dial-in code: LMSCdevelopment@usms.org.
The peer-to-peer teleconference program is facilitated by the LMSC Development Committee and, as future sessions are set up, volunteers can expect invitations based on their LMSC roles. The goal for each initiative is simple: to get as many volunteers as possible to participate in the conversations; and facilitate an exchange of ideas, suggestions, and experiences with a community of your peers.
Over the coming weeks, the LMSC Development Mentoring Subcommittee will be posting topics to the LMSC Administration Forum that are meant to generate discussion and lead to a supportive venue to pose questions, raise concerns, and find applicable solutions and best practices. The initial focus of the online forum conversations will be on topics related to the required standards with which LMSCs have reported the greatest challenges.
Thank you in advance for participating and special thanks for volunteering; your time and efforts are a great benefit to the members of USMS.

Sports Medicine and Science Committee
| The Sports Medicine and Science Committee serves to educate U.S. Masters Swimming members and the public on topics of sports medicine and science. The committee maintains a health network of professionals willing to serve as resources to Masters swimmers. Members of the health network respond to questions sent to USMS and review articles to be published in SWIMMER magazine and on usms.org.
Questions are first screened by the SMS Committee chair, then sent to an appropriate member of the health network. Questions from members are not frequent, so participation in the network will not require a large amount of time. We would like to continue to expand the network, if you or someone you know is a health care, medical, or science professional and would like to join the network, please contact SMS Committee Chair, Dr. Jane Moore, for further information.
