Harnessing Opportunities through Play and Education
SPRING NEWS!
Newsletter 10, April 2013
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our friends and supporters a very Happy Khmer New Year!

In the UK we're hoping that Spring will be with us soon and that the rain won't be as persistent as last year. Meanwhile, in Cambodia I'm sure you are wishing for rain and a let up from the heat.

As you read this Khmer New Year will have drawn to a close! As this traditional picture depicts it's a time for celebration for family and friends to be together and enjoy the community spirit in homelands.

As we see the new years and seasons come and go we reflect on how fast time has gone since starting H.O.P.E in 2008. At the same pace projects have developed, rejuvenated or stagnated and as Trustees we keep abreast of the ups and downs of projects ensuring that your money is allocated wisely and put to good cause.

This newsletter aims to focus on new projects we're proposing to fund, demostrating a positive change in direction to benefit more individuals in a longer term sustainable way.
But first an update so far this year, we have renewed Memorandums of Understings with three  existing programmes and extended our support to one programme in particular who have developed greatly over their first year of operation in running their Life Skills Programme. In particular we're delighted to see the success in Salariin Kampuchea's Life Skills classes.

Read here to see their recent activity.

We have also continued our support to This Life Cambodia' Internship programme as it takes on two new  recruits at their busy office in Siem Reap.  H.O.P.E part funds their learning, vocational training, wages and living expenses.

More news on the projects can be read here.

In addition we are now supporting This Life Cambodia's ground breaking work in providing vocational training opportunities for youth who are Behind Bars.

More news on this will be available over the upcoming months,  but click here for further detail on this project.

Recognising a distinct lack of suitably trained youth workers we have taken the decision to find a new initiative to build capacity for the future.

We're pleased to announce a new collaboration working with the team at First Step to provide a Social Work training programme for front line carers and support workers in the Siem Reap area.

Initially it's a comprehensive 6 month training course of 7, one week modules; covering the following topics:
  • Knowing Yourself
  • Knowing your Client
  • Understanding Abuse and Exploitation
  • Impacts and Effects
  • Helping and Supporting
This is further supplemented by 6 months of Follow-Up support to include at least 4 recall days and support forums to share experiences, problems, successes etc...

There will be 19 beneficiaries, including some from programmes H.O.P.E already works with.

This Spring we have two iconic annual events where H.O.P.E has been selected by two supporters as their chosen charity. One is the awesome and world famous London marathon where Jasmin Openshaw is fundraising through Just Giving.

Secondly, our good pal Rachel Palmer is running the fear inspiring Maldon Mud Race. Please support Rachel's unique challenge by clicking here.

Good luck Rachel and Jasmin!

We  look forward to updating you soon with more news soon. In the meantime get regular updates at www.hopeforcambodia.org.uk or Find us on Facebook or Follow us on Twitter.

Best wishes,
