FESTIVAL OF TREES

The 11th annual Festival of Trees will take place on Saturday, December 1, 2012, at TowneBank in Williamsburg at 6:30p.m. This fun-filled event includes heavy hors d'oeuvres from local caterers, music, and silent and live auctions. Tickets may be purchased online or at the Y. The cost is $60 per person. For questions, or more event information, call 757.229.9622, or visit the website at http://www.501auctions.com/ymca. Child care will be provided at the YMCA, provided you register in advance for the service.
Proceeds from the Festival of Trees benefit the Strong Communities Campaign. This year's goal is to raise $50,000 for the campaign, which funds the Y's Guardian Program. The Guardian Program helps the Y provide a wide range of programs and activities for children and families within our local community who could not otherwise afford them.

1st Annual Community Christmas Tree Hunt!
Provided by the
R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA's
Annual Festival of Trees & Strong Community Campaign
The R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA has teamed up with several Williamsburg retailers & banks to bring you a Christmas Tree Hunt that is fun for the whole family. During the month of November families can download & print out the Tree Hunt Map. There are 12 locations on the hunt. Each location has a tree on display...look for the YMCA Festival of Trees Red Ribbon. Once you find the tree you can then get your map marked with a sticker from that particular location. Once your entire map is filled, all stickers in place, you can bring it to the following merchants for a prize:

Paint On Pottery - Studio Fee gift certificate for each completed map
AMF Williamsburg Lanes - Free Bowling gift certificate to first 50 completed maps
Williamsburg Cupcakes - Free Cupcake to first 50 completed maps

The search could be done several different ways. You could take the entire month to complete the hunt or compete against other families/groups and see who finishes first! Either way, this will be a fun start to the holiday season and a great way to explore your Williamsburg Community. Remember to buckle up and drive safely.
Rules:
No start or end point, plot your own route
To complete the map you must get all 12 stickers
Timeline is Nov 3rd-Dec 1st, 2012
TAI CHI CHUAN

The R.F. Wilkinson Family YMCA is pleased to add the ancient Chinese martial art of Tai Chi Chuan to the activities we offer to our community.  Tai Chi has been shown to help individuals improve balance, and can help improve the health of those facing arthritis, Parkinson's disease, diabetes, COPD, and other health problems including lower back pain. It is also a great way to maintain health. Tai Chi is a martial art that includes the Chinese medicine technique of chi gung which incorporates moving meditation, breathing techniques, and acupressure points. Tai chi and chi gung help calm and center the mind and are excellent stress management tools.  The class also includes a chi gung component.

The class is taught by Dr. Stan Rockwell who has studied and practiced Tai Chi and chi gung for over ten years. His mentor is William Hansell who has taught Tai Chi locally for many years. Dr. Rockwell has also studied chi gung with Dr. Yang Jwing Ming, and is currently working on his certification to teach Dr. Paul Lam's Tai Chi for arthritis.

The class will focus on 21 form Sun style Tai Chi Chuan and will be structured to the skill level and needs of the participants.  Sun style is the youngest of the Tai Chi styles and has a higher stance and is easier to learn than some of the older styles.

Class will run for six weeks: November 13 -December 18 Tuesdays 6:30p.m-7:30p.m

Cost: Members $48.00

          Non-Members $68.00
