 | Rusty, my happiness muse |
Happiness is....
A warm puppy - very true. But does your happiness depend on whether or not your team wins or you get that special valentine?
Happiness is a personal choice & creation. You can't chase it, buy it or otherwise find it outside of yourself. It comes from within, & it takes practice. How do you start? Watch your pets. Daily, they are fully present; grateful for the little things in life; and unconditionally kind, loving & accepting. If you follow my blog, you know I chose joy in the face of great adversity, with Rusty as my guide. Here's how we find our bliss: "Our Comfy R-word Cure" - So how are those ridiculous resolutions (aka little lies you tell yourself each year) going? Ditch 'em & let your freak flag fly! "Poodle, out!" - This year I resolved to simply be me. As it turns out, being true to my quirky self quite possibly saved Rusty's life. Embrace who you are & who your pet is. Listen, trust & breathe... it will be ok.

Got game?
If you're watching the game today, keep your guests & pets happy with these tips:
- Keep human snacks out of Pup's reach.
If guests insist on feeding Pup against your wishes, give them a pre-measured portion of his daily kibble to treat good, calm behavior if he approaches them. - Sports fans get rowdy. Give Kitty a quiet place of her own, away from the game. Allow Pup the option of retreating, as well. Insist that your guests respect your pet's personal space & desire to be away from the excitement.
- If the game's on @ your house, with guests coming & going, prevent your pet's escape. Baby gates, exercise pens & closed interior doors work wonders. Do not put your pet outside; it's winter, folks.
- If you have a fearful pet who can't relax, even in their own space, ask a non-sports fan friend if they'll take your pet into their home today.
- If your team loses & you're emotional, go for a walk. Take your guests with you. Don't subject your pets to negativity. It's frightening & confusing for them to see your personality change that way. And, it fills your home with tension.

A blissfully short list of recalls & warnings:
- Salmonella in PMI's Red Flannel dry cat food
- We all know food coloring is marketing, not nutrition. Don't buy colored kibble or biscuits for your pets, and don't drink brown soda!
- This is NOT ok! Do NOT buy Waggin' Train & Milo's Kitchen jerky treats just because they're back on store shelves. For that matter, don't buy ANY jerky treats until their toxicity is explained & remedied with honesty & certainty.
