Many Voices, One Story

Commencement weekend, members of the class of 1963 came to a campus they had never known, with people they didn't know, to celebrate 50 years of ministry. Well, a few of them knew each other, but the alumni who gathered came from four different campuses: Rock Island and Maywood, Central Seminary (which hadn't yet merged with LSTC) and Seminex (which merged much later).

"Many Voices, One Story" has been the theme as we've celebrated LSTC's first 50 years.

During its 50-year history, the voices that contribute to LSTC's story come from many different places.

As the one charged with sharing some of those historic voices with you during this celebration year, I have to tell you that I was barely able to scratch the surface. There are still many voices to be heard to fully tell the story of LSTC, but that's a task for a bona fide historian.

What unites those many voices is the one story. That's why alumni from four schools can come together 50 years after they graduate and identify as the LSTC class of 1963. It's really not about the school. It's about the story, that one vital story that they have given their lives to sharing.

Who knows what LSTC, theological education, or even the church will look like in 50 years when the class of 2013 gets together?

But wherever they meet, what stories they will tell of 50 years of sharing the life-giving story of the good news of Jesus Christ!

Peace,

Save the date: Seminex 40th  Anniversary

2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the founding of Christ Seminary-Seminex. Alumni, friends, and faculty are invited to come to LSTC June 17-19, 2014, to celebrate. If you'd like to be part of planning this gathering, contact Mark Van Scharrel at mvanscha@lstc.edu.

Still time to double your gift

Your gift to the Annual Fund makes a huge difference to LSTC students. It keeps tuition low, provides financial assistance, and, of course, pays the electric bill (just try to recharge that laptop without electricity!) The Annual Fund accounts for over one-third of LSTC's income. And now your gift can do even more because until June 30 it may qualify to be doubled by the Helge Matching Gift. It's easy to make a gift online here

The classes of 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 thank you!
