A highlight of SEAA's National Convention is the awards ceremony to be held Thursday, April 28 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Person of the Year will be recognized for his or her volunteer efforts on behalf of the association. Plus, don't miss two new additions to the festivities.

New Awards
For the first time, one member company will receive a $4500 Craft Training Grant, to be used for establishing a SEAA/NCCER Ironworker Craft Training Unit, Authorized Assessment Site, or Ironworker Apprenticeship. To date, about a dozen companies are in process of establishing training units/assessment sites, which now includes 13 instructors/performance evaluators, 10 performance evaluators, and 8 coordinators.

This year four Projects of the Year awards will be given-the newest addition is for an erection contract exceeding $2.5 million. "We have quality entries in all four categories representing projects from The Rocky's to Virginia, New York to the Gulf States," said Alan Sears, Project of the Year Committee Chairman. More
Take Survey Assessing Rates of Successful Falls in Construction
In preparation for the OSHA Stand-Down to prevent falls in construction, May 2-6, 2016, the Steel Erectors Association of America is seeking participation in an industry-wide survey on successful falls from height in construction.

The purpose of the survey is to understand the impact training and fall protection activities have on falls resulting in no injuries, and to assess the level of rescue training contractors are performing.

Responses are anonymous. The data will be used to create an infographic. We are seeking industry-wide participation, with goal receiving 1,000 responses.  Please share link with your industry contacts or through social media. The 11 Question Survey is open to SEAA members and non-members. Survey will close on March 21.

OSHA has designated May 2-6, 2016 for the third annual stand down to prevent falls in construction. SEAA encourages members to make use of materials the association provides specific to working at heights in Steel Erection as you plan your company's stand down activities.

SEAA Fall Hazard Training Module ($200 for members; $295 for non-members), was developed with training guidelines established by ANSI Z490.1-2001, and was last updated in 2014. The program is accompanied by a bilingual instructor's guide, pre-planning checklist, discussion topics, and video. Among the topics covered:

  • Common slip, trip and fall hazards associated with typical tools of the trade, including ladders, scaffolds, and aerial lifts.
  • Proper Installation of guard rails, safety nets, vertical and horizontal lifelines.
In addition, fall prevention is one of a dozen topics covered in the SEAA/NCCER Ironworker Level 1 trainee and instructor guides, providing introduction to a variety of hazard prevention topics. ($75 each, available to members only).

Both products can be ordered through the SEAA online store.
