AISC Issues New Requirements for Certified Steel Erectors

Participants in AISC's erector certification program are now required to submit a current Certificate of Liability Insurance naming the American Institute of Steel Construction, LLC and Quality Management Company, LLC as additional entities covered by the insurance and Waiver of Indemnity Agreement annually.

AISC published the new Program Requirements for AISC Certified Erectors of Structural Steel on October 31, 2014 and revisions were made on February 20, 2015. These requirements are the governing criteria for the erector program and reference the new Standard for Structural Steel Erectors - 2013 (AISC 206-13). They establish the rules and regulations that form the relationship between AISC and program participants. The goal of the program is to embed a quality management system within an organization to increase productivity, which helps to reduce unnecessary costs and ensure the quality of processes.  More

Learn more about the new requirements during an education session presented by Todd Alwood & Larry Martof of AISC, on Friday, April 24, during SEAA's 43rd Annual Convention. Register Now

SEAA Supports Stand Down to Prevent Falls
SEAA is joining with other industry groups in supporting OSHA's 2015 National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction. The stand-down will be observed across the country from May 4-15. Employers and asked to participate in fall-prevention training during those dates.

To assist erectors, who face unique working at heights scenarios, SEAA has created posters and banners for its members to use in their training efforts. Free 11x17 Posters in English and Spanish and low-cost 5-foot banners are available to members. Contact the SEAA office at [email protected] to place your order. Find additional resources from OSHA here.

How All Members Benefit from Near Misses

Near misses happen on job sites every day. Instead of an excuse to wipe your brow and heave a sigh of relief, they should be a call to action and taken seriously. Often workers won't report near misses, even if your company has a policy in place to do so, because of the inherent fear of blame.

SEAA encourages members to document near misses and share the detals for our Safety Flash newsletter. Just email 2-3 paragraphs describing the scenario along with suggest best practices for avoiding an incident and a photo to [email protected]. No company names will be used.
