This Weekend's Live Outdoor Music
Sadly our Friday evening outdoor music is now over for this season. But Sunday afternoon performances continue through October 2. And it's during this final month that we tend to see some of our most glorious days for outdoor music. Along with our biggest crowds...no doubt motivated in large measure by the awareness that opportunities such as this are all too fleeting up here in the Northwoods.
And what a Sunday we have in store for you! The forecast is for an absolutely splendid day, with mostly sunny skies and a temperature of 72 degrees at showtime. Plus the band we have on tap this weekend is quickly becoming one of our most popular among Rookery regulars.
We first invited Pushing Chain to our outdoor stage two summers ago. We were so impressed we brought them back twice last year. And this, once again, will be their second appearance this summer.
Pushing Chain is the North Shore duo of Boyd Blomberg from Grand Marais on guitar and Adam Moe of Duluth on fiddle. Their musical genre is roots and Americana, with a set list that includes original songs, covers of classic artists like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and Nina Simone, and some fresh new takes on old folk songs. The duo features tight harmonies and a gonzo approach which keeps performances fresh and exciting.
In other words, in addition to their exceptional musical skills, these guys also engage the audience with fun stories and witty banter. We tested out a few new acts this summer who didn't connect with the crowd on a similar level. And to be quite candid about it, we won't be having them back. Because we realize that's half the fun of coming out to hear live music.
We hope you'll come out for some great fun this Sunday!

On Sundays the Rookery features a special patio grill menu. The grill fires up at 1:30 and the music begins at 2. All seating and dining is first come first served so we recommend you arrive early to secure your spot!
