Friday Music Begins This Week

Our new experiment in Friday evening (5-8 PM) outdoor music begins this week with the return of a couple of guys whose music our guests have really enjoyed in the past. Guitarist Andy Noyes and drummer Stevie Matier have performed on the Rookery's outdoor stage numerous times as The O'Bro's duo. This week they're joined by fiddle player Liesel Wilson in their trio incarnation, Keep 'Er Lit. You're gonna love their up tempo performance of Celtic and world folk music and beyond.

Then on Sunday we welcome another new to us group whom we're especially excited about. The Brothers Burn Mountain were recommended to us by some Rookery guests who saw them perform in Minocqua and Park Falls. We also had previously heard great reviews circulating closer to their Duluth home base.

The musical genre of brothers Jesse and Ryan Dermody is unique, eclectic, and a bit hard to describe. Here's how two music critics who laud their artistry have tried:

"The phrase, 'I'm just a vessel' is used a lot when I ask artists about where their music comes from, and while the Brothers Burn Mountain never simply said that, I don't think it could be any more true for them. Their music is alive - it's a breathing force that you can feel. The music is all around them, in everything they see. They absorb it and appreciate it and it becomes a part of them that then flows out with no thought process or agenda - true musicians, true artists." - Doug MacRostie from

"Talented musicians whose palette of aural shades and hues is so varied that they really are unclassifiable." - John Ziegler, The Duluth News Tribune

It's shaping up to be another great weekend for live outdoor music at the Rookery! We hope you'll join us for one or both performances. Here's what you need to know.

On Friday evening we'll be serving from our regular dinner menu no matter whether you choose to dine outdoors during the music, or listen for awhile before moving indoors to eat. For outdoor dining we accept (and strongly recommend) reservations from 4:30 until 6 PM, although you're welcome to be seated anytime prior to your reservation to enjoy the music while you wait your turn to order. After 6 PM all outdoor dining is first come first served, or you can call in advance for reservations to dine indoors.

On Sunday afternoon we'll be serving from our special patio grill menu. The grill fires up at 1:30 and the music begins at 2. All seating and dining is first come first served so we recommend you arrive early to secure your spot!
