This Week's Live Outdoor Music

Pushing Chain
Thursday 5-8 PM

Barefoot Wonder
Sunday 2-5 PM

In the words of the legendary Yogi Berra, "It's like dj vu all over again."

Meaning another great weekend of fiddle and guitar at the Rookery! We're simply swapping performance days for two of the best fiddle/guitar duos from the western Lake Superior region, both of whom graced our outdoor stage on opposite days just a few weeks ago. Those gonzo guys from the North Shore return this time around on Thursday (TODAY). And the barefoot boys from Chequamegon Bay are back this week on Sunday.

This will be just the third appearance at the Rookery for Pushing Chainthe North Shore duo of Boyd Blomberg from Grand Marais on guitar and Adam Moe of Duluth on fiddle. Pushing Chain performs roots and Americana music with a set list including original songs, covers of classic artists like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and Nina Simone, and some fresh new takes on old folk songs. The duo features tight harmonies and a gonzo approach which keeps performances fresh and exciting.

If you're a regular visitor to Bayfield's Lake Superior Big Top Chautaqua you'll no doubt recognize the name, T. Bruce Bowers...the talented fiddle player for the Blue Canvas Orchestra, the Chautauqua house band. Ric Gillman is an amazing 6 and 12 string guitarist from Madeline Island who has recorded, played, and toured with some of the music industry's best regional and national talents. Together they comprise Barefoot Wonder. Why the name? Let's just say that unless it happens to snow on Thursday you'll likely see them dressed similar to the photo above from their debut performance on the Rookery stage three summers ago.

Remember, this is our last Thursday music performance of the season. And despite the cold and rainy start to the day it's forecast to be a beautiful afternoon. So reservations for outdoor dining off our regular menu are strongly encouraged.

Meanwhile our Sunday afternoon music continues all the way through September, a gorgeous month which tends to be our busiest. So bear in mind all seating is first come first served, with our special patio grill menu available from 1:30 to 4:30 PM.

It's another virtual fiddle and guitar festival this weekend. Pushing Chain on Thursday. Barefoot Wonder on Sunday. Live. Outdoors. Only at the Rookery!
