This Week's Live Outdoor Music

Colleen Myhre
Thursday, 5-8 PM

Room 2 Groove
Sunday, 2-5 PM

We've certainly had a sneak peak of autumn these past few days in the Northwoods. From nearly 90 degrees last Sunday to 50 as I write this, with plenty of clouds and much needed rain. But by the time the music begins this afternoon the sun is supposed to peek out once again and the temps move back into the comfortable mid-60s.

Just a little reminder, folks, that you only have so many days left this season to squeeze in live outdoor music at the Rookery. And this weekend we have some GREAT music to offer you yet again!

It begins this evening with the return of folk-country-blues singer/songwriter Colleen Myhre to our outdoor stage. Colleen has been described as "part Lucinda Williams and part Charlie Parr, whose gritty songwriting is as rawhide tough as it is genuine." Her songs, grounded in passionate and sincere family values, range from honest emotion and earthly imagery to the raucousness of horses, strippers, and whiskey. Folk Music Weekly lauded her most recent album, Ride of My Life, as "powerful music, involved lyrics and straight-forward arrangements (which) easily exceed the folk rock music standards for the new millennium."

Then on Sunday we welcome for the very first time to the Rookery, Room 2 Groove, a septet from just up the road in Washburn. Yes, I had to look up that word, septet: "a group of seven people playing music or singing together." Truth is we've never tried to fit a band this big on the Rookery stage before. It will be worth the price of admission (FREE again!) just to see how we do it. But more importantly this is gonna be one fun afternoon. What else would you expect from a group self-described as "fun, danceable, and oh so very sexy." Room 2 Groove is all about making the world, and specifically Northern Wisconsin, a more vibrant place to live by playing positive music that gets people up and DANCING! We'll be clearing the area in front of our stage just for that purpose. Bring your dancing shoes!

From solo to septet. Colleen Myhre on Thursday. Room 2 Groove on Sunday. Live. Outdoors. Only at the Rookery!

Remember, we now accept (and strongly encourage) reservations for outdoor dining on Thursday evenings. If you don't have dining reservations you're still welcome to enjoy the music with a beverage from our open seating area and we'll offer you a table when and if we can.

Meanwhile all seating on Sunday afternoons will continue to be first come first served and feature our special patio grill menu from 1:30 to 4:30 PM.
