This Week's Live Outdoor Music

YazmĂn
Yazmin
Thursday, 5-8 PM

Duck for the Oyster
Sunday, 2-5 PM

The Rookery's live summer music series continues this evening with a gifted young singer/songwriter who has performed numerous times on our outdoor stage. And then on Sunday afternoon we welcome back for just the second time a group well known throughout northwest Wisconsin for more than two decades.

Yazmín is a native of Washburn who first performed publicly at the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua at the tender age of three. A decade and a half later she won first place at the Chautauqua "Songwriter of the Year Competition." Since then she has opened at the Big Top for the likes of Nancy Griffith and Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know live broadcast.

Yazmín performs many of her own original Indie, folk, and pop compositions. Her songs draw from deep musical wells that span Caribbean rhythms and ancient Celtic melodies. Blending and mixing in perfect proportions, she crosses traditional boundaries into new landscapes, taking us all along for a ride we won't soon forget.

Duck for the Oyster specializes in traditional music and dance, from 18th and 19th century America as well as a variety of dances from around the world. Since 1989 the band has been hosting and playing a regular dance series featuring squares, contras, reels, quadrilles, international, circle and round dances. Their dances are sprinkled with waltzes, polkas, schottisches, swing dances and music for clogging.

In the time they have been together Duck for the Oyster has become one of the Midwest's best traditional dance bands. Their eclectic repertoire, compelling rhythms, and sheer sense of fun make them a favorite among dancers of all levels. And while you're certainly welcome to strut your stuff on the Rookery's dance floor...make that dance turf...the Duck's performance on Sunday will emphasize music over dancing.

Yazmín later today. Duck for the Oyster on Sunday. Live. Outdoors. Only at the Rookery!

Remember, we now accept (and strongly encourage) reservations for outdoor dining on Thursday evenings. If you don't have dining reservations you're still welcome to enjoy the music with a beverage from our open seating area and we'll offer you a table when and if we can.

Meanwhile all seating on Sunday afternoons will continue to be first come first served and feature our special patio grill menu from 1:30 to 4:30 PM.
