When you publish a calendar and poster in May outlining an entire summer of 16 live outdoor music performances it's not surprising if there happen to be a few changes along the way. Such is the case this weekend when an unanticipated family conflict precluded our original scheduled band from playing at the Rookery. But it also was fortuitous, because it enabled us to bring in another performer who caught our attention just days after initially filling out our schedule for this summer.

We're so glad to have the opportunity to welcome Colleen Myhre to our outdoor stage this Sunday. Myhre is a folk-country-blues singer/songwriter grounded in passionate and sincere family values, whose songwriting ranges from honest emotion and earthly imagery to the raucousness of horses, strippers, and whiskey.

The hard-boiled Myhre has brought her folksy style to the Northland for over five years with performances at a diverse group of coffee shops, pubs and auditoriums. She's become a regular at Duluth's Homegrown Music Festival each spring, where they describe her as "part Lucinda Williams and part Charlie Parr, whose gritty songwriting is as rawhide tough as it is genuine."

Colleen has released two albums worth of acoustic storytelling. Folk Music Weekly lauded her most recent, Ride of My Life, as "powerful music, involved lyrics and straight-forward arrangements (which) easily exceed the folk rock music standards for the new millennium."

This will be our 15th of 16 Summer Sunday Serenades at the Rookery this season. We're coming to the end, folks! And you haven't fully experienced summer in the Northwoods if you haven't caught an outdoor music performance...or several.

Colleen Myhre. This Sunday. Live. Outdoors. Only at the Rookery!

As usual our patio grill fires up at 1:30 and the music begins at 2. All seating is first come first served, so be sure to arrive early to claim yours.
