Barefoot Wonder
(Bruce Bowers & Ric Gillman)
Washburn & Madeline Island
It's 2 for the price of 1 this Sunday at the Rookery (2 x Free = Still Free). Two of the Chequamegon Bay area's finest musicians. One great performance. Together on our outdoor music stage. If you're a regular visitor to the Lake Superior Big Top Chautaqua you'll no doubt recognize the name, Bruce Bowers. But not only is Bruce the talented fiddle player for the Blue Canvas Orchestra, the Chautauqua house band. He's also the father and occasional musical duo partner of Yazmín, a frequent performer on the Rookery stage.
This weekend Bruce returns to the Rookery with his friend and fellow artist Ric Gillman, an amazing 6 and 12 string guitarist from Madeline Island. Ric has recorded, played, and toured with some of the music industry's best regional and national talents. Ric and Bruce began their musical partnership just two summers ago. And one of their very first performances together was right here at the Rookery. As for the duo's chosen name, Barefoot Wonder? Well, you'll just have to show up this Sunday and check out the why for yourself.
Bruce & Ric. Barefoot Wonder. This Sunday. Live. Outdoors. Only at the Rookery!
As usual our patio grill fires up at 1:30 and the music begins at 2. All seating is first come first served, so be sure to arrive early to claim yours.
What's an Opah?
Opah is one of the most beautiful fish in the sea. And also one of the tastiest! Also known as moonfish, opah is one of the most popular species served in Hawaiian restaurants. Its meat is rich and moist, firm yet tender. There aren't many places in the Midwest where you're gonna find fresh Hawaiian opah. Perhaps that's why the Rookery seems to be developing a bit of a cult following for this unique fish.
