The GRRRL Band
Once again this weekend the Rookery is looking forward to welcoming a first time band to our outdoor stage. And while their primary genre is blues and rock, they're not exactly a stereotypical blues and rock band.
Yet despite their name, the Duluth-based Grrrl Band is quick to point out that neither are they a feminist political movement. Rather they're just six grrrls (dare we say of a certain age) "having more fun than our kids think we should have."
The band's influences and repertoire are vast and diverse, with a special nod to great women musicians such as Etta James, Sippie Wallace, Bonnie Raitt, Irma Thomas, Carole King, Koko Taylor, and Ruth Brown. Click HERE for a partial play list of songs you can expect The Grrrl Band to perform at the Rookery this Sunday.
This is a performance you won't want to miss. And while the current forecast is calling for a chance of rain showers on Sunday, the show will go on regardless. We also plan to keep it outside if at all possible. So get here early for a covered seat under our new pavilion or bring along an umbrella.
As usual our patio grill fires up at 1:30 and the music begins at 2. All seating is first come, first served.
The Grrrl Band. This Sunday. Live. Outdoors. Only at the Rookery!
