Live Outdoor Music

This Sunday Afternoon at the Rookery

Well, the weather last Sunday wasn't exactly stellar. But the music certainly was! And the folks who braved the cool temps and cloudy skies (but thankfully no rain) witnessed one amazing show.

Armadillo Jump definitely lived up to their advance billing. And their name! I believe, in fact, they were the first band this season to inspire folks to get up out of their chairs to dance and jump around on our not so accommodating turf dance floor. Our apologies to the couple who took a tumble while boogieing down to one especially mesmerizing blues number. Happily they jumped right back up with big smiles on their faces. Nevertheless, a compelling reminder to include a smooth and resilient danceable surface in our long range outdoor music landscaping plans.

While the weather last weekend did little to quell audience enthusiasm, it no doubt kept a few of our fair weather friends away. For those of you holding out for an absolute perfect day for live outdoor music, this could be the weekend you've been waiting for. The current forecast for Sunday is for a high of 72 degrees and partly cloudy skies. Should be a beautiful weekend to welcome Stacy Hughes back to the Rookery's outdoor stage!

Stacy Hughes is a professional vocalist who hails from Winona, Minnesota. For the past 30 years she's performed at coffee houses, bars, restaurants...even on riverboats...throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Her extensive repertoire ranges from jazz to acoustic rock, folk to country.

Last year, Stacy and her jazz quartet wowed an enthusiastic Rookery audience with their stirring renditions of many old jazz standards. This season she's back, minus her jazz group, but with the addition of good friend, Bob Falk, harmonica player extraordinaire! Bob brings his profound interpretations to Stacy's sound and elevates it to a new toe-tapping level. With his rich baritone adding harmonies as well, the whole is definitely more than the sum of the two parts.

As always the Rookery grill fires up at 1:30 and the music begins at 2. There's no cover charge though gratuities for the musicians are most appreciated.

Stacy Hughes & Bob Falk. This Sunday. Live. Outdoors. Only at the Rookery!
