Live Outdoor Music

This Sunday Afternoon at the Rookery

Yazmin & Beat Zero

Yazmn & Beat Zero

with special guest Leah Tousignant

This weekend we are pleased to welcome back to the Rookery's outdoor stage one of the most frequent and popular performers of our past two seasons.

Singer/songwriter Yazmn is a native of Washburn who first performed publicly at the Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua at the tender age of three. A decade and a half later she won first place at the Chautauqua "Songwriter of the Year Competition." Since then she has opened at the Big Top for the likes of Nancy Griffith and Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know live broadcast.

After hearing Yazmn perform from backstage, Nancy Griffith exclaimed:

"How brilliant is she? I was just transported to another place. What a voice, what a keyboard player, just absolutely extraordinary."

Yazmn performs many of her own original Indie, folk, and pop compositions. Her songs draw from deep musical wells that span Caribbean rhythms and ancient Celtic melodies. Blending and mixing in perfect proportions, she crosses traditional boundaries into new landscapes, taking us all along for a ride we won't soon forget.

Joining Yazmn on Sunday will be her Beat Zero partner, Bruce Bowers. Bruce is a virtuoso fiddle player who is probably best know as an original member of the Big Top's Blue Canvas Orchestra. He also performs with several other talented area musicians, including 12 string guitarist, Ric Gillman, with whom he'll be back on the Rookery stage as Barefoot Wonder on September 1.

Yazmn currently is attending McNally Smith College of Music in the Twin Cities. As a special bonus she's also bringing along talented friend and fellow student, Leah Tousignant, to introduce her to the Rookery and perform a few songs together.

As always the Rookery grill fires up at 1:30 on Sunday and the music begins at 2. There's no cover charge though gratuities for the musicians are most appreciated.

Yazmn & Beat Zero. This Sunday. Live. Outdoors. Only at the Rookery!
