This Week's Fresh "UN-Fish" UN-Fry

Escargots a la Provence

snails with a garlic aioli and breadcrumb crust

Beginning Thursday thru the weekend (or until it runs out). Call ahead to reserve.

Snails or Escargot? THAT is the Question!

Did you realize that right here in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest we have land snail diversities that rival the tropical rainforests of New Zealand and Madagascar? Want to learn more?

Then come to the Rookery this Thursday evening for a presentation that will enlighten you just a bit to the amazing beauty and interesting ecology of these cryptic critters. Local ecologist extraordinaire Eric North will share his passion for snails in a dinner lecture sponsored by the Cable Natural History Museum.

We really hope that Eric won't be upset. But we just couldn't resist this special occasion to also feature for the first time ever at the Rookery...escargot. That, of course, being French for snails. Especially snails that you eat! In this case, snails with a garlic aioli and breadcrumb crust.

Dinner and conversation begins at 5:30 PM on Thursday. Or you're welcome to attend the program only beginning at 7:00 PM.

Either way you need to register in advance with the Cable Natural History Museum at 798-3890. The cost for the program is $5 for museum members or $10 for non-members. Dinner is on your own and reservations are highly recommended by calling the Rookery at 794-2062.

And don't worry. If you're more interested in hearing about these intriguing critters than eating them, our regular menu also will be available on Thursday evening.

Don't worry either if you can't make this special Thursday evening presentation. We'll continue to offer Escargots a la Provence right on through the weekend, or until it runs out (call ahead to reserve). Only at the Rookery!

Closed Superbowl Sunday

We realize that Superbowl Sunday is a day of tradition for many of our regular guests. Bar parties. Private parties. There certainly is a lot to choose from! And someday we hope you'll make the Rookery a part of your own friends and family tradition. We'll be happy to put on a heck of a spread for your private Superbowl party. Maybe next year?

In the meantime we'll be closed this Sunday to enjoy our own Superbowl traditions. Hope to see ya back here on Monday or some other time real soon!
