Sister Gen Maiers

,

Last Sunday we celebrated the Feast of Pentecost, marking the end of the Easter season and the beginning of ordinary time-or as one of our chaplains said, "Oh Yikes! Ordinary time!" But it really isn't that ordinary because the Holy Spirit is in us and with us even on the most ordinary of days. Jesus did not leave us alone. The wisdom and the courage of the Spirit in our lives makes it possible for us to carry the message and mission of Jesus to others through our actions.

It's the end of May. Along with all farmers and gardeners, let's praise God for the rain, the sunshine and the warmth. Together, let's pray for those who lost lives and homes because of the devastating weather in the southern plains.

As I think about the end of the fiscal year, just one month away, GRATITUDE rises immediately in my heart and thoughts! Your donations have been particularly generous this year. We are grateful to all of you who have given in this fiscal year and to all who support us in any way. And you, our monthly and quarterly donors, are remarkably generous with your timely donations.

As part of our mission we serve the less fortunate by partnering with different organizations who serve them. For the past ten years we have been a partner with Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity. We hold one yearly benefit for Habitat, the soup-and-bread "Nun Banquet" that more people attend every year. In addition, one of our Sisters is on the Habitat board, and several have helped build and clean Habitat houses.

Here is a special opportunity for anyone who has not given in this fiscal year and who wants to support the mission and ministries of the Sisters. A new Habitat home is being built in Saint Cloud in honor of Pope Francis. If you donate $10 we will give it to Habitat for the "Pope Francis Build"; any amount over $10 from an individual will go towards replacing lights and repairing the dome in the Sacred Heart Chapel. ($10 is the minimum amount you can give using our Web page--of course we won't have a problem if you choose to give more. If you prefer, you can give by check.)

We invite you to join with us in doing something for others that neither you nor we could do alone. This partnership between Habitat, the monastery and you, helps us all go beyond ourselves to create the kind of joy and energy Pope Francis describes in his book The Joy of the Gospel. We'd love to have you join the Sisters in this partnership. An easy way to do this is go to our Web page!

From June 7 to 12, many of the Sisters will be attending the conference retreat entitled "God, Cosmos and Gospel," directed by Vincent Smiles, PhD. The retreat is open to anyone interested. As the Sisters spend these retreat days in quiet, reflection and prayer, we assure you of our prayers. At the same time, we ask you to pray for us.

Sacred Heart Chapel Under Wraps

Sacred Heart Chapel is closed until June 19. Work is well underway to repair the dome and install windows which will be more eco-friendly through retaining heat. Energy saving lights are also being installed. These photographs by Karen Rose, OSB, give an idea of how the chapel and organ look under wraps. You can also see the scaffolding which really is a work of art in its own right.

Until mid June, Eucharist will continue to be celebrated on weekdays in Rosamond A and on Sundays in the Gathering Place. Check our Web site for details.

First Profession

We are delighted to announce that Novice Tammy Shoemaker will make her first monastic profession on Saturday, July 11, the Feast of St. Benedict. Tammy, who comes from Louisville, Kentucky, will join three other women who are in first profession as they continue to discern whether they are truly called to monastic life. Please pray for Tammy as she takes this next step on her monastic journey.
 Hoarding 101

We're adding an extra workshop to the Spirituality Center's summer program. It's about hoarding, a complex disorder which affects many lives. Find out more!

Monastery Blossoms
During in May our campus was graced by beautiful blossom trees. Here are some photographs taken by Karen Streveler, OSB, so we can share a little of the beauty with you.

3G Summer Camp
Still some spaces left for the July 20-22 Girls, God and Good Times (3G) Catholic, Benedictine summer camp. Open to girls in Grades 6 through 9.

Call Sister Lisa Kittock on 320 363 7114 or e-mail lkittock@csbsju.edu to find out more.
 Out of the Box
Jewelry - Out of the Box is Whitby Gallery's next show, opening Sunday, June 14, at 2 p.m. You'll be amazed at the creativity of the four Minnesota-based jewelry artists, Karin Johnson, Kate Qualley Peterson, Claudia Poser and Amy Skeate-Carlson, whose work is on display. Continues through August 9. For more more information, call 320 363 7113.

Nurses' Blessing
It has become a moving and meaningful tradition for Sisters who are nurses to bless College of Saint Benedict nursing seniors before they graduate. The service this year took place in Sacred Heart Chapel on Friday, May 8. Pray with us that these nurses may truly bring Christ to the sick people for whom they care. Delight Your Eye

As many of you will know Sister Nancy Bauer is teaching canon law at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. This spring she's been sending us a series of photographs showing the nation's capital in bloom. We thought we'd end this letter by delighting your eye with some of them.

Thank you again for sharing your time, talent and treasure with us as we respond to the needs of the world. Your partnership is vital to us as we strive to bring a ray of hope to a dark world. To make a secure online donation to the Sisters of the Order of Saint Benedict, click here.
