Did you know: In the United States, eating disorders are becoming more prevalent and are affecting younger and younger children?
According to the National Eating Disorders Association, 80% of 10-year olds are afraid of being fat. As a parent, you can help your children develop a positive body image. Practical steps include: Avoid criticizing yourself or others' weight in front of your kids. Be mindful of how you are talking about food (example: "I can't eat potatoes because they are carbs, etc.) Instead focus on healthy eating and exercise without reference to weight. Let your kids know that weight gain and changes are a natural part of the growing process. And finally, talk to your children about what they see on social media and TV, less than 5% of the population fits into the ideal body type portrayed by the media.
