Parent Awareness Presentation

Holmes School PTO and YWCA of Darien/Norwalk's Parent Awareness present Michelle Albright, Phd for a presentation entitled "Typical, Tolerable and Terrible: What's Really Cause for Concern Among our Children" on Thursday, May 19 from 7:00-8:30 at Holmes School.

Tweens and teens are notorious for acting without thinking, and in fact their brains aren't fully wired to connect choices and consequences. Join us for an interactive presentation where Michelle Albright, a licensed clinical psychologist, will share strategies on
  • How adolescent brains work (and how they don't)
  • How to foster resilience and responsibility among our children
  • What should (and shouldn't) be considered "typical" adolescent behavior
  • Establishing effective family rules and routines
  • Enhancing parent-child communication and relationships
  • Nurturing children's self-awareness, social awareness and decision making skills.
Got Old Batteries?

Please help the Holmes School Cub Scouts recycle household batteries. There will be a collection box by the front entrance to the school starting Monday, May 16th through Friday, May 27th. Thank you for your help in protecting our environment!

Thriving Youth:
May is Mental Health Awareness Month

"The best way to stay well is to have good coping skills and build resiliency to deal with life when it throws us curveballs."- Silver Hill Hospital Blog

Incorporating mental wellness techniques into our everyday lives is important regardless of whether or not we have a mental illness. Do you have coping skills to employ when life throws you a curve ball? Maybe you go for a run, get a massage, spend time journaling or reach out to a friend or counselor. This week, talk with your child about what they like to do that can relieve stress. Maybe it's playing with a pet, jumping on a trampoline or listening to music. The next time they are having a difficult day, offer to do one of their favorite relaxing activities with them.
